Mr. Robert Tait, a widely known citizen and one of the oldest of Wilcox county, died Monday, April 1st, at his home at Canton Bend. He was buried with Masonic honors by Dale Lodge No. 25, of Camden, of which he was the oldest living member at the time of his death. Mr. Tait was a man widely known and enjoyed the confidence and respect of all in the scope of his acquaintance. He was born in Wilcox county eighty-three years ago and lived here all his life. He was a captain in the Confederate service. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Mary Jane Erwin, and to whom he was married fifty-five years ago at Spring Hill, Mobile county. He leaves four sons, Robert and Frank S. Tait, of Montgomery, Gill G. Tait, of Blockton and Sidney Tait, of Mobile, and the following daughters: Mrs. Mary T. Beck, Mrs. Jas. T. Beck, Mrs. J. B. McDaniel and Miss Helen and Annie Tait, all being residents of Wilcox county. The deceased was a grandson of Judge Charles Tait, who was the first Federal Judge of Alabama, and who moved from Georgia to Alabama, and from which state he had served as a United States Senator.
