W. W. WEST Was a Former Resident of Wilcox County. Many who knew him years ago, will regret to learn of the death of Capt. Walter W. West at his home in New Boston, Texas. Capt. West was born in Camden, Wilcox Co., Alabama, fifty-four years ago, where he spent his boyhood days struggling to gain an education and assist his widowed mother in supporting and educating a younger brother and two sisters. Many friends and old time associates here testify to the faithful, honorable manner in which he discharged those obligations, and all others pertaining to an honorable useful citizen. In 1883 he was married to Miss Mary A. Cooper, of Selma, removing to New Boston, Tex., soon thereafter when he established the New Boston Herald. Until his death he managed and conducted the paper, devoting the best years of his life to the advancement of his adopted town, county, and state, and to The Herald. In mentioning his death The Texarkana Courier says: "This news comes with much sadness to the many friends of the popular publisher in Texarkann. For years together Capt. West has wielded a great influence in this community. His paper, has been identified with the best interests of the community, and ever tended to the upbuilding of the educational and other phases of development. He had the unlimited respect and esteem of all who knew him, and notwithstanding the fact that he has served nobly and well his people, until he has grown old, he will none the less be sadly missed." Capt. West is survived by his wife and several daughters, who will continue the publication of his paper.
