First, I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Mary M. Lamkins all my entire estate at my death during her natural life. After she pays all my joint debts, I debar her from hiring out any of my slaves but to keep them all together during her life. At her death the estate to be divided as follows: that I give and bequeath to Chalmus B. Lamkins, son of G. L. Lamkins, two hundred dollars to be left in the hands of Wm. J. Lamkins to be paid to the said Chalmus B. Lamkins when he becomes twenty one years old and if the said Chalmus B. Lamkins dies while he is a minor then this two hundred dollars to return to my estate. The balance of my estate I give and bequeath unto my three children Susannah M. Mims, Wm. J. Lamkins and Mary M. Beard to be divided equally between them. The negroes to be put into lots and drawed for so as to keep them in the family; the balance of my property to be sold to the highest bidder and the assets to be equally divided between my three children. The property intended for Susannah M. Mims if she dies leaving no bodily heirs then at her death the property assigned to her is to go back to my estate or to the balance of my heirs. I do nominate and appoint Wm. J. Lamkins and William Beard to be the executors of this my last will and testament. If either of them refuses to act the other may act alone. In testimony whereof I have to this my last will and testament contained on this sheet thereof subscribed my name and set my seal this the 19 day of November A.D. 1862. Bennett Lamkins Signed sealed declared and published by the said Bennett Lamkins as and for his last will and testament in present of us, who at his request and in his presence and in the presence of each other have subscribed our names as witnesses hereto.
