Young Will Written: September 25, 1856 State of Alabama, Wilcox County In the name of God I James G. Young of the State and County aforesaid being weak in body but of sound and disposing mind and memory do make and declare this my last will and testament as follows. first: I desire my just debts to be first paid. second: It is my will that the whole of my estate after my debts are both real and personal be kept together and managed and controlled solly by my beloved wife during her natural life and the proceeds arising therefrom shall be applied to the benefit and use of my family. If the proceeds should more than support the family then and in that event my beloved wife has the power to purchase such property as she may think fit and proper. third: If my beloved wife should die during the years my estate is not to be divided until the crops then growing shall be gathered. fourth: After the death of my beloved wife I desire my property to be disposed of as follows First I desire my land to be sold in one body to the highest bidder on one, two, three & four years, the and second notes payable at maturity without interest but the two remaining to bear interest from date thereof. Second I desire that all my horses, mules, cows, and all stock of any description after the death of my beloved wife be sold in a credit of twelve months. Third: I desire after my beloved wife’s death that my slaves to be divided eaqually between my following named children to wit: Elizabeth Ann wife of S. Hardaway, Harriet C Younge wife of Henry Young Jr., Virginia A. wife of Wm. D. King, Lucy O. Young and Mary P. Young. Fourth: I desire such of those children as have received any Negroes from me to account for them when the bal. of my negroes are divided. Fifth: It is also my will that the above named children shall have eaqually in all the money that may arise from the sale of such property as I have directed to be sold and also all monies that may come to or belong to my estate not herein mentioned. Sixth: I do hereby nominate and appoint Henry Young Jr. trustee for my beloved daughter Mary P. Young and desire him to hold and manage her property as guardians are required to manage the property of their wards. Seventh: I do also nominate and appoint Henry Young Jr. trustee for my beloved daughter Virginia A. King and to receive such property as she may receive on the division of estate and to manage and controll such as may be received as in his judgement will be most judicious. Eighth It is my desire that my son Hardaway Young shall not receive any portion of my property nor have any controll of it in any way whatsoever as I have given him as much as I intend to give. I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife Elizabeth G. Young Executor of this my last will and testament. Witness my hand and seal this the 25th day of September A.D. 1856 (Signed) James G.
