CURTIS, of this city died last Saturday night 31st of Dec. after several weeks of intense suffering, and was buried Sunday. Jan.6, 1899 J. EDWIN ADKINS, age 24 youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W.R. ADKINS died at Thornton, Ar. on the 30th of Dec.1899, from injuries received in a train wreck near that place. His remains were interred in the Fairview Cemetery near Double Springs, Al. on the 2nd of Jan.1899. Rev. S.H. WILSON and S.C. COOPER conducting the services. Jan.13, 1899 Rev. WILLIAM J. TINGLE, Mellville, Al. breathed his last the 29th of Nov. 1898. Bro. Tingle leaves a devoted wife, three children, an aged mother, five brothers and one sister. He was interred in Bethel Cemetery at 4p.m. the 1st of Dec. with Masonic honors. Bro. TINGLE was born the 1st of Mar. 1850, professed a hope in Christ about 23 years ago and joined the Missionary Baptist Church. He was ordained to preach a few years ago in the Freewill Baptist Church but owing to failing health he never exercised his faith in public. Jan.27, 1899 EDGAR LEE BLACKWELL is dead. He was the son of J.C. and ELIZAR BLACKWELL. He was born the 28th of July 1882 and died the 21st of Jan.1899. Age 16 years, 5 months and 23 days. He was taken sick on the 13th and died the 21st of Jan.1899 with the most dreaded disease Pneumonia. Jan.27, 1899 Mrs. BETTY CURTIS, wife of CHAS F. CURTIS of this place, after many weeks suffering, departed this life on the 25th. Her remains were interred at the Fairview Cemetery on the 26th. Elder KEY conducted the services. May 5, 1899 Marriages; Mr. C.W. CANTRELL and Miss N.A. RIDDLE, Mr. G.J. FREEMAN and Miss IDA CHUMLEY, Mr. JOSEPH W. MAYHALL and Miss JANIE DEFOOR. July 7, 1899 About 10 o'clock Wednesday night Mr. D.S. McCULLAR, one of the most prominent citizens of the county, died at Motes. He had been sick about three weeks with Typhoid fever. Aug.18, 1899 D.S. McCULLAR departed this life the 5th of July 1899 at age 52 years, 1 month and 1 day. Sept.22, 1899 J. BURTON PAYNE of Addison, Al. died of Typhoid fever the 11th of Sept.1899. He was born in north Ga. and spent his boyhood there with his parents. He came to Al. about two years ago and manifested a great interest in the causes of education and Christianity. He was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Sept.22, 1899 After an illness of 34 days with Typhoid fever, Mrs. MOLLIE CURTIS, wife of C.A. CURTIS of this place died Thursday morning at about 9 o'clock. She leaves five sweet little girls. Mrs. CURTIS was a daughter of Hon. P.H. NEWMAN. She was buried at Fairview Cemetery today at 10 o'clock. Sept.22, 1899 On last Sunday morning at about 9 o'clock, Commissioner HADDER, who resided across Clear Creek three miles west of town, was thrown from a buggy and killed. Nov.3, 1899 The news reached here that Mrs. R.S. JONES of Haleysville died Wednesday morning. Nov.24, 1899 In memory of LILA DOROTHA daughter of Mr. and Mrs. ELAM, who died the 7th of Oct.1899 at the age of 7 months and 18 days. Jan.5, 1900 Mr. C.F. CURTIS of this place and Mrs. PARK ROBINSON of Mt. Hope, were married on the 22nd of Dec.1899. Jan.5, 1900 Death again has invaded the home of Mr. C.A. CURTIS. Wednesday morning taking as its victim his little daughter, MURTIE, who has been lingering with Typhoid fever for several weeks. Only a few weeks ago death claimed her dear mother. Jan.5, 1900 On last Sunday at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. WOLF, Miss SAVANNA WOLF was married to Mr. FLECHER ROBERSON. The ceremony took place at 9 o'clock. Jan.13, 1900 Died at her home near Tavern, the 17th of Dec., Mrs. CYNTHIA MITCHEM. She was buried at Friendship Cemetery. Feb.23, 1900 Mr. JOHN HADDER, one of the county's oldest and most respected citizens died at the home of his daughter. Mr. HADDER was 86 years old and lived a consistent member of Northern M. E. Church for 30 years. His body was laid to rest in Fairview Cemetery on last Tuesday. Mar.23 1900 Judge BLANTON issued a marriage license this week to D.J. HARPER and M.J. PARTRIDGE, also M.A. PANTER and M.J. ROBINS. Apr.6, 1900 The many friends of Mr. and Mrs. Z. McVAY will be pained to learn of the death of their little infant son, COLEMAN ZADOCK. He was born the 7th of Mar. 1900 and died on the 2nd, being 26 days old. Apr.6, 1900 Died last Sunday night at his home in Winston County. Mr. RICHARD E. PAYNE age 74 years and 3 days. He enlisted in Capt. H.B. IRWINS Com. 27th Al. Reg't and served through out the war. He was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. May 15, 1900 Died at her home near Motes, Winston County, on the morning of the 28th of Apr. 1900, Mrs. RACHEL ROMINE. She was the daughter of L.M. and MARY E. POE deceased. She was born the 22nd of Jan. 1848, was married to Mr. L.C. ROMINE the 30th of Sept.1872, who with one child survives her, a son ANDREW T. ROMINE. She was buried at Old Bethel. June 1, 1900 LARKIN J. CRAFT born the 3rd of Feb.1828. Died the 14th of May 1900. Age 72 years, 3 months and 11 days. June 8, 1900 Married; JOHN S. CURTIS and Miss LUTIE WEEMS; ISAAC J. TITTLE and Miss CARRIE A. PATTERSON. Aug.17, 1900 Thursday at 1 o'clock at the residence of H.J. BAIRD, J.F. YORK and Miss SUSIE ROMINE were united in the holy bonds of wedlock. Judge R.L. BLANTON officiating. Sept.28, 1900 We regret to announce the death of our friend HENRY T. McCULLAR, who lived eight miles south east of this place, which occurred last Monday. Mar.3, 1905 Mr. FRANK FARLEY and Miss VIOLA KEY were happily married last Sunday evening at the residence of the bride's father, Mr. S.T. KEY. Mar.31, 1905 WILLIE LEE ROBINSON, a little daughter of W.J. ROBINSON of Morgan beat, died suddenly Saturday. Oct.6, 1905 Little BERYL ADKINS the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. GEO W. ADKINS died Sunday morning, the 1st of Oct., of inflammation of the stomach. He was nearly 14 months old. Nov.10, 1905 MARTIN TURNER died the 7th of Oct. 1905, age 72 years. He was a member of Haleyville Lodge No.464 for 45 years. Nov.24, 1905 Married last Sunday night at the M.E. Church south, at this place by Rev. S.H. WILSON, Mr. SMITH McCULLAR of Motes to Miss MINNIE BURKES of Ashridge. Feb.9, 1906 THOMAS GIBSON an aged and highly respected citizen of near Arley died at the home of his daughter in Cullman County, on the 25th of Jan.1906. His remains were interred in the Mt. Hope Cemetery near Arley on the 27th. He was perhaps the oldest citizen in the county. He spent last summer with his widowed daughter-in-law, Mrs. ISHAM GIBSON in Double Springs. While here he joined the Fairview Baptist Church. Mar.16, 1906 A small child of JOHN LONG of Marshall was killed Monday afternoon while playing near the family woodpile. The boy was just 3 years old. Mar.23, 1906 Mrs. MELVINA E. BUTTRAM nee MILLICAN was born in Ga. the 29th of Aug.1869. She departed this life the 18th of Mar.1906. Her father moved to Al. when she was a child. She joined M.E. Church south in Aug. of 1885; was married to F.H. BUTTRAM the 29th of July 1886, unto them were born six children, one of them preceded her to glory. On Monday the 11th of Mar. she was taken seriously ill with Pneumonia. She pasted away Sunday evening the 18th of Mar. Visiting family of Springville, St.Clair Co. were THOMAS MILLICAN, Mrs. GEO MILLICAN, and G. M. MILLICAN. Mar.23, 1906 The death angel visited Arley, Friday night and took from our midst Mr. L.R. JEAN, an aged father. His remains were brought here yesterday. The burial took place in Kemp Cemetery. Mar.23, 1906 JOHN R. CHILCOAT departed this life the 13th of Feb. 1906. He was 67 years old. Apr.13, 1906 Mr. WARREN WATTS, a well-known citizen of Moreland, died suddenly of heart disease yesterday. McCULLAR, a prominent politician and farmer of Beat # 4. Apr.13, 1906 Married at the home of the bride near Elk, Mr. GEO BALDWIN to Miss ADA THORNTON on last Sunday afternoon. Apr.20, 1906 Married: at Double Springs on Easter Sunday, Mr. FERNANDO SHIPMAN and Miss PEARL MOORE of this place, Judge CURTIS performed the ceremony. Apr.20, 1906 We are sorry to learn that the beloved wife of JOHN MOORE died one day last week at their home near Oakshade, of consumption. May 4, 1906 Mrs. EVANS, wife of WILL EVANS of Nauvoo, died the 30th of Apr., after an illness of several months. May 25, 1906 Married on Sunday the 20th of May, Mr. TOM WALL to Miss LIDA UPTON. June 8, 1906 Died at his home near Arley, the 9th of Mar.1906, L.R. JEAN. He was born in Heard County, Ga. the 3rd of Dec.1829. Was married to Mrs. T.A. SLATON the 28th of July 1858. Professed a hope in Christ and in 1859 joined the church. He was a true and faithful member of Addison Lodge No. 463. June 8, 1906 We are sorry to learn that the baby of Mr. and Mrs. JASPER COCKRELL, of near this place died last Sunday night. June 29, 1906 We are sorry to learn to say that Mrs. HARRISON HENDERSON died this week. She leaves a husband and several little children. July 20, 1906 Mrs. CYNTHA ELAM died on the 9th. She lives a husband and three little boys to mourn their loss. The burial services were conducted by Rev. THOS KELLY and WILLIAM TOWERS. The remains were laid to rest in the Upshow Cemetery. July 20, 1906 We learn that ARTHUR CURTIS of this place and Miss NELLIE CARROLL of Double Springs, were married by Judge CURTIS last week. July 20, 1906 Sorry to say that Mr. SCOTT ELAM lost his wife last week on the 16th of July. July 20, 1906 The wife of ARTHUR McNUTT of Delmar, died on the 10th. Her remains were interred in the Union Grove Cemetery. She leaves an infant and husband to mourn her loss. July 27, 1906 We are sorry to learn that a little child of Mr. and Mrs. GEORGE ROBERTS died Monday. July 27, 1906 Miss MINNIE WRIGHT and Mr. HORSLEY were happily married last Sunday at the home of the bride. Aug.3, 1906 GEO TAYLOR and MARY BATES were united in matrimony last Wednesday evening. Sept.14, 1906 We regret to chronicle the death of the little son of our friend FRED WILSON, which occurred Monday night. Oct.6, 1906 W.J. SEYMORE died Monday morning at 3 o'clock. He was buried Thursday at the Frank Curtis Cemetery. Jan.25, 1907 Married at the residence of the brides parents near this place, on last Sunday J.H. TAYLOR to Miss LYDIA KING. Rev. J.K.P. TAYLOR tied the knot. Jan.25, 1907 Married at the residence of Rev. J.P. PUGH, EDWARD FROST to Mrs. MARTHA MIZE nee KING. Mrs. MIZE is about 45 and Mr. FROST 75. Jan.25, 1907 WEST MOORELAND was found dead in bed last week. Jan.25, 1907 CLEVELAND McCULLAR of this place and Miss ESSIE VICKERY of Haleysville, were happily married last Sunday by Rev. W.J. BARKER. Jan.25, 1907 JAMES G. MARTIN and Miss MAGGIE HUE MARTIN, both of Mount Hope were married at the courthouse yesterday, by Judge CURTIS. There were parental objection and the couple "ran away from the old folks". The young lady was exceedingly pretty and the general verdict is that the young man was perfectly justifiable in stealing her. Mar.1, 1907 We are sorry to state the death of Mrs. MAUD ALEXANDER. She died last Sunday morning; She was buried in the JALEY WILLIAMS graveyard. Rev. J.R. BARKER, of Double Springs conducted the funeral services. She leaves a husband and six little children. Mar.8, 1907 Died last Friday the little 6-year-old daughter of JACK FREEMAN, with diphtheria. She was buried at Friendship Cemetery last Saturday. Burial services were conducted by Rev. T.J. KELLY. Mar.29, 1907 JESSIE JENKINS and Miss DOVER UPTAIN of near Nesmith were married Sunday. Mar.29, 1907 BENJAMIN F. BERRY one of Winston's most illustrious sons, born a few miles west of here in this county in 1866 and died on the 20th of Mar. 1907 in Memphis, Tenn. He was buried in the cemetery at Union Grove near his old home. The undertaker wrote on his coffin, Cause of Death, cancer of the liver. Mar.29, 1907 On the 19th of Mar. God in his goodness saw fit to call from earth JOSEPH W. BARTON, better known in his community six miles north of Lynn as Uncle Joe. For more than a quarter of a century he was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church. Mar.29, 1907 Mr. and Mrs. WISE GIBSON found their five-month-old baby dead in the bed Friday morning. The remains were buried in the Haleyville Cemetery Saturday. It was though bold hives was the cause of death. Mar.29, 1907 We are sorry to learn of the death of Mr. M.L.THOMAS. SNIPES being left alone in the room a few moments crawled into the fire and before the fact was discovered the infant was so seriously burned that it died soon after. Services conducted by REV. W.R. LAUDERDALE, which occurred at her home on the hills some miles south of Moulton last Sunday evening. May 31, 1907 After a brief illness the 15 month old baby girl of Mr. and Mrs. ED LYLE died Friday afternoon about 2 o'clock. It was buried in the Ashridge Cemetery Saturday afternoon. May 31, 1907 Died on last Saturday night the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. FLOYD HUNTER. May 31, 1907 Mrs. LELA F.GIBSON, daughter of NATHAN and LIZA LANGLY, was born near Mellville Al. the 3rd of Apr.1887 and died in Arley aged 20 years, 1 month and 24 days. Was married to WALTER M. GIBSON, son of Rev. GEO W. GIBSON the 13th of June 1905.There having been born to them one child which preceded the deceased to the sweet land of rest. Sister GIBSON took consumption about one year before her death. The last four or five months of which she was confined to her bed. The funeral was conducted by Rev. J.P. GILLAND at Mt. Hope Thursday evening the 28th of May at 2 o'clock. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church about two years. June 7, 1907 We are sorry to say that the beloved wife of Mr. JOHN ENTREKIN died at her home near Jones Chappel on the third Sunday at 10 o'clock. June 7, 1907 We also learn that the mother of our Holiness preacher Bro. LOTT dropped dead last Sunday morning. She was about 40 years old. She leaves a husband and three children living. The funeral services took place at the Inman Cemetery and were conducted by Rev. L.P. WHALEY. He leaves a wife and six children to mourn their loss. Mr. HUNTER came to this county from Ga. several years ago. July 9, 1909 LOUIS SEARS a young man of about 22 years, residing in southeast Winston County had the misfortune to lose his life by drowning last Saturday evening in Sipsey River. He came from South Carolina about a year ago. July 16, 1909 On the morning of the 9th of July the death angel visited the home of Bro. and Sister J.W. SHAW and summoned their darling little baby, WYNE. Little WYNE MAY was two months old. She was buried in Mount Ebron Cemetery on Saturday the 10th. The burial services were conducted by J.E. WILSON. July 23, 1909 Haleyville Rev. T.P. SUTHERLAND was up the other day and officiated in the burial services of Mr. JOHN RIDDLE who recently died in this community. July 23, 1909 Two children have recently died in this section of Dysentery. They were the children of Mr. and Mrs. ELBERT GODSEY and Mr. and Mrs. W.G. TIDWELL. July 30, 1909 Mrs. BLANTON, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L.W. HOOPER. The wife of Mr. J.W. BLANTON, was born the 8th of Nov. 1875, at Collinsville, Dekalb County, Al. Departed this life the 16th of July 1909. She leaves a husband and seven children. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She was laid to rest in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Funeral services conducted by Bro. T.P. SUTHERLAND. July 30, 1909 Browns Creek We regret to announce the death of Rev. J.C. COOPER of this place which occurred on the 21st by a falling rock which crushed him to death almost instantly. He was buried near his home. The funeral services were conducted by Rev. COLLINS of Nauvoo. July 30, 1909 Falls City We are sorry to learn of the death our Brother COOPER, who was a member of the Baptist Church. Nov.26, 1909 ELIZABETH STEWART was born the 12th of Nov. 1862 and departed this life the 16th of Nov. 1909. She was the daughter of R.A. CUMMINGS and was married to T.A. STEWART at about the age of 22. The funeral services were conducted by the minister assisted by Rev. J.H. CORBIN, Wednesday evening the 17th. She leaves a husband and aged father.
