This record was contained in the file of Pension Application filed by his wife Eliza. S.S. Spain died a few days after he was mustered out of the service in Mooreville, Alabama. Pension Records indicate he was buried near Mooresville, but as of this date, I have been unable to locate a grave. Before the war, he and Eliza moved to Winston County, Alabama. She is buried at Harper Cemetery, near Clear Creek, in Winston County, next to her father. Her father tombstone list him as George Harper, death May 1858, 75 years old Eliza was the daughter of George Arthur Hopper and Jemima Hogeland. Due to the fire at the Marion County, Alabama Courthouse, I consider this a lucky find.
