He was born April 15, 1929, in New Boston, Mo., to William T. and Elsie Hammond Ivers. He grew up and was educated in Kirksville, Mo., and attended Northeast Missouri State Univerity. He was a member of the Missouri Army National Guard for 13 years and attained the rank of master sergeant. He married Shirley A. Phelps on Dec. 31, 1950. He began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1949 and was appointed postmaster in November 1980, serving until his retirementin 1987. He was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Kirksville and had served as its deacon and elder and was Scotmaster of Troop 26, sponsored by the church. He joined Adair Lodge 366 AF&AM in Kirkdville in 1953 and served in all chairs and was worshipful master in 1969. He belonged to York Rite Bodies and was a member of Moila Temple. He and his wife moved to Bella Vista in 1996 from Kirksville. He was a member of Highland Christian Church in Bella Vista. Survivors include his wife, Shirley Ivers of Bella Vista; two sons, Jeffrey L. Ivers and wife Dee of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Richard E. Ivers and wife Robbie of Olathe, Kan; one sister; Elizabeth ance of St. Charles, Mo.; two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. May 17 at Highland Christian Church with Paul Seal officiating. Arrangements are by Bella Vista Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Highland Christian Church, 1500 Forest Hills Blvd., Bella Vista, 72715, or a favorite charity.
