He was born October 6, 1943 in Pine Bluff, Arkansas a son of the late Vester Burks and Bessie Anderson Burks. He began his working career with Mad Butcher serving as a store manager and retired as Executive Vice President and Director of advertising with 42 years of service. He was also associated with Supermarket Investors as a regional manager for a year. He was the owner and operator of Strong Supermarket, Strong, Arkansas. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Warren Lions Club, Bradley County Chamber of Commerce, Pink Tomato Festival Chairman in l969 and was a director of Pines Votech School, Pine Bluff. Surviving is his wife Frances Morris Burks whom he married on April 2, 1961 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas; 1 son Roger Burks and spouse Rhena, Memphis, Tenn; 2 daughters Angie Ferrell and spouse Eddie, Hermitage, Ark. and Tasha Stuart and spouse Rev. Deon, Decatur, Ill; 4 brothers V. J. Burks, Arizona, Rev. Billy Wayne Burks, Redfield, Ark. and David Burks, Pine Bluff, Ark, Hershel Burks, Fordyce, Ark; 2 sisters Artavia Shelton, Pine Bluff, Ark. and Barbara Burks, Missouri; 8 grandchildren Jill Ferrell Forrest and spouse Kenny, Monticello, Ark, Leann Ferrell and Katie Ferrell both of Hermitage, Ark, Josh Burks, San Diego, Calif, Jacob Burks and Jonathan Burks both of Memphis, Tenn, C. J. Stuart and Cydney Stuart, Decatur, Ill. Two brothers Roy Ray Burks and Rufus Burks and a sister Louise Harper also preceded him in death. Funeral services were 2:00pm Sunday, April 23, at Frazer's Chapel with Rev. Wayman Mann officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist and soloist was Joe Stephens. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery by Frazer's Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Keith Crockett, George White, Tommy Shipman, Ted Higgenbotham, James Ard, Rick Rock, Jessie Ard, Brian Martin and Mike McGaha. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. James W. Marsh, Allen Bellamy, Rod Norton, Bob Milton, Charles O'Neal, Jerry Goshen, Fred Shelton, John Lipton, Jim Scott and Bill Jones. Memorials prefers to the Donald W.
