All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** Unknown paper and dates Mrs. Armstrong Dies Sunday Mrs. Mabel Craft Armstrong, longtime Newport resident, died unexpectedly Sunday night at her home at 901 Holden. She was 75. Mrs. Armstrong was the wife of County Clerk Joe Armstrong. She was born at Beebe on September 17, 1885 and was the daughter of J. T. and Nora Hackney Craft. A member of the Umsted Memorial Methodist Church, she and Mr. Armstrong were married at Diaz on July 27, 1904. They came to Newport in 1917. Other survivors include a son, Major Tom Armstrong of Little Rock; two daughters, Mrs. Vardaman Fox and Mrs. Dewey Buffington, both of Newport; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Umsted Memorial Methodist Church by the Rev. Frank Weatherford, pastor. Active pallbearers were Aden Williamson, Clyde McDonald, Leon Hogan, Clint Massey, Joe Brownd, Jr. and Cornelius Hurley. All county officials served as honorary pallbearers. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery by Dillinger Funeral Home.
