Carroll Co., AR - Cemeteries - Rush Cemetery *********************************************** This file was contributed for use in the USGenWeb Archives by: C.M. Wright Copyright. Go through town passing the square until you get to Carl Street. Turn right and go to the stop sign and turn left onto the Old Huntsville Road. Continue to the next stop sign which is 221, turn left again and go south. In the next bend on the left is Southern Heights Baptist Church (new building). Continue on which turns west or right and follow 221 or McKennon Ford Road. As one passes the next intersection called 501 or Pinsion Mt. Road start looking left, within the next 1/4 to 1/2 mile look south or left. If it is summer look for two ponds, one to the left of the cemetery and one to the right of the cemetery in the field. A one piece double gate near the road. Walking 185 feet up the fence row to the next one piece double gate. We started reading the cemetery from the Northeast end and traveling to the Southeast end calling this the first row. We continued to read it this way until we were done, (N-S /E-W). It appears that there are at least 12 rows and possibly as many as 15 buried in each row, very irregular graves and many trees. This cemetery is in poor condition and looks as if in another 25 years it will be about gone. Burials as early as 1850 for sure in 1853, this is according to the descendants of the WOOD Family, (See William WOOD in Goodspeeds-Carroll Co. AR or the book, Carroll County Families-These Were The First). Known last burial was in 1945, so this cemetery has not been used for about 60 years. (See also Wood/ Rush Cemetery on the Carroll County Historical Society page, www.rootsweb.com/~arcchs/) In 1976, Mrs. Ethel (WOOD) Skelton read this cemetery as well. Some stones she read are not there to date or are buried, a few readings also excluded. Also many stones had poems but are to far gone to read.
