I am sure it is the Berryville Paper because they lived there at the same 
address (117 Pritchard Street) their whole married life.

C.C."Check" Whiteley Dies at Home Here Late Sunday Afternoon (the 
headline)

Death claimed Chester C. "Check" Whiteley, 70, at his home here at 6:20 
p.m., Sunday afternoon, following an illness of about three months.  
His passing followed surgery during April.

"Check" as a youth came to Berryville and was employed in the 
restaurant business with Cad Snow, later buying a interest in the business.  
After a year's partnership, Whiteley bought the other interest and has 
operated this business in the same location for 49 years.  

His sons, Jack and Bob, joined him in the enterprise several years ago, 
with Mr. Whiteley retiring from active management in 1959.  

C. C. Whiteley was mayor of Berryville in 1932 and one of the 
progressive projects completed by his administration was the waterline to 
Johnson Spring, six miles southwest of Berryville.  Mr. Whiteley has the 
Number 1 certificate of the bond issue which helped make his water 
improvement project possible.  He again served a term as mayor and had 
previously served the town as Alderman.  Mr. Whiteley was a member of the 
town's first fire department and was a promoter of the department when it 
was first motorized, converting the hand-drawn hose reels to a specially 
built Model T chassis.  He was also active in helping establish a 
modern fire department which resulted in the purchase of a modern fire truck 
and accessories. 

C. C. Whiteley was born near Berryville, November 21, 1890, a son of 
Robert Chester and Amanda Wright-Whiteley, and had lived here all of his 
life.  He married Miss Emma Snow of Berryville on November 16, 1913.  
The have since resided at 117 Pritchard Street.  To them were born three 
sons and one daughter.  The deceased was a member of the Baptist Church 
and the Berryville Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Emma Snow-Whiteley of the home:  
Three sons, Jack Whiteley and Bob Whiteley of Berryville and Bert Whiteley 
of Fayetteville, Ark.: One daughter, Mrs. Maralee Whiteley-Grim and her 
husband, Scott Grim, of Berryville: six grandchildren and one 
great-grandchild.  He is also survived by one brother, Clem Whiteley of 
Berryville, and two sisters, Mrs Emma Whiteley-Snow of Vale, Oregon, and Mrs. 
Elizabeth Snow of Berryville.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday afternoon at the 
Nelson Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Carl Overton, pastor of the First Baptist 
Church, officiating.  Interment was in Berryville Memorial Park, 
directed by the Nelson Furneral Home.  Pallbearers were Joe Poynor, W.L. 
Chafin, Homer Jackson, Earl Hoar, W. R. Epperson and Hanse Armstrong.  
Honorary pallbearers included A. M. Jackson, Ernest Hair, C. T. Denney, 
Parley Hull, Charlie Hull, Ertie Allred, Raphu Allred and John Hanna.

( I thought it was kind of interesting that Chester's birthday was 
November 21, 1890, Emma's birthdate was November 13, 1894:  They were 
married November 16, 1913.  They just partied all month!)  I have quite a 
few pictures of Emma, Jack, Maralee, Bob & Bert but I don't know their 
birthdates.  I do know that Bob & Bert are twins.  I also have a picture 
of Maralee, Scott and their first child named Janet.
