Biographical Information.

Robert Liddell, judge of the county and probate court of Clay County, Ark., was
born in Tennessee, in 1850, and is the son of William and Louisa (Mitchell)
Liddell, and a grandson of Francis Liddell. In 1852 the parents emigrated to
Greene County, Ark. (which was afterward formed into Clay County), and made
their home at what is now known as Chalk Bluff, Clay County, where they
continued to pass the remainder of their days. Judge Robert Liddell was but two
years of age when he came with his parents to Greene County, and here he grew to
manhood. He received a practical English education in the common schools of the
locality, which he supplemented by attending two terms in Missouri. He then
followed agricultural pursuits until 1878, when he was elected clerk of the
circuit court, and held this position with honor and credit until October, 1886.
He was then elected judge of the county and probate court, and has served in
that capacity ever since. He takes a deep interest in all laudable and worthy
enterprises, and is a liberal contributor to the same. He is a genial companion,
an intellectual associate, as his many warm friends can testify, and is in every
way fitted to fill his present position. He was married in 1873 to Miss Mary
Crawford, of Butler County, Mo., and the daughter of P. P. and Margaret (Hudson)
Crawford. Mrs. Liddell was but a child eight years old when her mother died, and
her father died soon after her marriage. To the Judge and wife eight children
have been born, five of whom survive: Clara, Willie, Beulah, Finis and Eunice.
The others died in infancy. The Judge is a member of the Masonic Order, the I.
O. O. F. and K. of H., and he and his wife are members of the Cumberland
Presbyterian Church, located at St. Francis.
