Biographical Information.

H. H. Williams, manufacturer of lumber for agricultural implements, first saw
the light in Oneida County, N. Y., in September, 1841, being one of nine
children, eight living, born to the marriage of Herbert Williams and Jane
Hughes, natives of Wales, who came to New York State at an early day, where they
both spent their lives; the father being a farmer by occupation. Their children
who are living are: William H., Evan H., Catherine, Mary, Amos, Sarah, Hattie
and Hugh H. The latter is the youngest of the family and was reared and educated
in Oneida County, receiving an academic as well as a common school education.
From early childhood he was reared to a farm life, which he followed until
January, 1864, when he went to Jacksonville, Ill., and was employed in the
Insane Asylum. From that time until 1876 he [p.254] was engaged in the lumber
business in Pulaski and Alexander Counties, and at the latter date moved to
Scott County, Mo., locating near Morley, where he remained two years, since
which time he has lived in Clay County, Ark., being a resident of Corning the
first year. He has since been occupied in the lumber business in Williams, which
he conducts on a very large scale, and employs on an average about thirty men,
shipping his product north. In 1887 he shipped from his mill $32,000 worth of
lumber. This mill is one of the largest in the county, and besides he owns a
large farm and several thousand acres of timber land. In September, 1888, he had
a postoffice established at his mill, which is called Williams' postoffice. Mr.
Williams is wide-awake and enterprising, and takes an interest in all movements
to benefit the county. He belongs to the I. O. O. F., and in 1863 was married to
Miss Kate B. Billings, a native of Oneida County, N. Y. They have no family.
