McMURTREY, 74 Former County Judge And Beloved Citizen Answers Final Call In the closing hours of 1925, Judge Eli Albert McMurtrey, age 74 years, beloved citizen of Rison and Cleveland County, passed away, death coming early Thursday afternoon after many weeks of illness. For some time it has been feared by those in close touch with him that he would never be a well man, but throughout his illness he put up a determined fight. Funeral services for the deceased were conducted from the Baptist Church in Rison Friday afternoon, attended by a large crowd of friends of the family. Rev. Geo. F. Moody, a Baptist minister, and the Rev. B.F. Musser, pastor of the Methodist church conducted the funeral services. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. He is survived by his wife, six sons, as follows: E.F. of Fort Worth, Texas; Alton McMurtrey of Beaumont, Texas, J.E., Joe Ralph, and Milton McMurtrey of Rison; and three daughters as follows: Mrs.Lula Burkhart of Tullahoma, Tenn.; and Misses Margarite and Martha Louise McMurtrey of Rison; two brothers, Dr. J.S. McMurtrey and Atty. J.M. McMurtrey of Rison. Judge McMurtrey was born in Cleveland County August 22, 1851. He attended school at the Toledo academy during his boyhood days and after finishing his schooling taught for several years. He was married in 1875 to Miss Mollie Kendall, after whose death he was married to Miss Nora Cowan in 1896. In 1908 he was elected county judge and served two terms. It was during his last term that the present county courthouse was built. He also was justice of the peace for some years, was one of the best known surveyors in the county and at the time of his death he was a member of the board of comissioners of accounts of the county. He was a member of the Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge. THOMAS C. MEEKS IS DEAD "Dailion"--Thomas C. Meeks, age 40 years, died Thursday, Dec. 30, in a Little Rock Hospital after a short illness. The body was brought overland by Ralph Robinson to Dialion where interment was made in Mt. Zion cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Alex Calvert. January 14, 1926 MRS. S.J. ORTON DEAD Mrs. Sarah Jane (Grandma) Orton, 69 years of age, died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Orton here in town Sunday and was buried in the Doakesville cemetery Monday. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. D.A. McReynolds, formerly pastor of the Baptist church of this city. Grandma Orton was born in the state of Ohio, moving to and marrying in the state of Arkansas. Had been a resident of this place for 12 years. She was a loyal member of the Baptist church, a consistent Christian woman and loved by all who knew her. The deceased had been in very ill health for a long time and her going was not unexpected. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, Lewis Orton of this place and Woody Orton of Joplin, Mo., Mrs. Maud Holderbaum of Little Rock and Mrs. T.E. Hopson of this place--Ft. Towson (Okla.) News January 21, 1926 MRS. J.A. WILSON AND MRS. I.H. RAY TWO RISON WOMEN ARE CALLED BY DEATH Mrs. J.A. Wilson and Mrs. I.H. Ray Answer Final Summons Mrs. Emma Caroline Wilson, wife of the late J.A. Wilson of Whiteoak township, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L.J. Acklin, in Humphrey, death resulting from pneumonia. The remains were brought to Rison Monday morning and carried to the home of her son, Dr. H.W. Wilson. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. B.F. Musser, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. R.C. Walsh, pastor of the Humphrey Methodist church. Interment was made in the Wilson cemetery in Whiteoak township not far from her old home. The deceased was 66 years of age. She was born in Albany, Ga., and before her marriage was a Miss Brown. She came to Arkansas at the age of seven years with her parents, who were pioneer settlers of this county. In young womanhood she was married to J.A. Wilson. To them were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. Those surviving are Dr. H.O. Wilson, city; Mrs. L.J. Acklin, Humphrey, Mrs. W.P. West, Hagerman, N.Mexico; and Mrs. A.T. Crosby, Alikchi, Okla. A sister, Mrs. Lucy B. Wright, of Arkadelphia survives. In early life she united with the Methodist church but later became a member of the Presbyterian church. Last year she united with the Methodist church, her membership being in the Rison church. MRS. I.H. RAY The sudden death of Mrs. I.H. Ray at her home here late Monday afternoon came as a distinct surprise to the town and community. Mrs. Ray, who had been in ill health for some time, was apparently feeling better and had sat up most of the day. Upon retiring to her bed and taking some medicine she at once began to sink and in a few minutes her life had ebbed out with only one daughter, Mrs. Bert England, at her bedside. Interment was made at Greenwood cemetery Wednesday afternoon. Preceeding the burial funeral services were conducted at the Methodist chruch by the Rev. B.F. Musser. Mrs. Ray was before her marriage Miss Mary Johnson Raney and was born in Lexington, Ky. She was 58 years of age. On November 13, 1893, she was married to I.H. Ray and a number of years ago they moved to this county. She was a member of the Christian church since 17 years of age. Five daughters survive, as follows: Mrs. Bert England, Mrs. Carroll Culpepper, Misses Flossie and Kathlyn Ray, all of Rison, and Mrs. L.H. Harper of Broken Bow, Okla. MRS. DAVE ROBERTS "Rowell" The funeral of Mrs. Dave Roberts was held at Rowell cemetery Saturday morning at 11 o'clock. Rev. Ault preached the funeral sermon, Mrs. Roberts had been ill for some time at her home here. She left a husband and a number of children and grandchildren together with a host of friends to mourn her loss. SID VARNELL DEAD News was received here last week of the death of Sid Varnell at his home in Pittsburg, Penn. The body was brought to Warren, accompanied by his sons, and buried in the Warren cemetery. The deceased formerly resided here but for several years he had made his home at Warren before going to Pittsburg. The deceased had been in ill health for some time. He is survived by a wife and several grandchildren. January 28, 1926 MRS. FANNIE ROSS "Randall" Mrs. Fannie Ross died Thursday night, death resulting from an illness of pneumonia. The funeral was held at Pleasant Ridge church of which she was a member. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Mr. Kelley. Interment was made in the Case family burying ground. She is survived by one son, two daughters and a host of relatives and friends. February 4, 1926 "N. Concord" CHILD LUNSFORD We sympathize with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lunsford in the death of their two-year old son. February 11, 1926 JAMES M. GREENLEES, 79 IS CLAIMED BY DEATH James M. Greenlees, age 79 years, died at his home at Faith Friday morning after an illness of several weeks. He was a former resident of this county, having been born and reared near here, but for the past 30 years had made his home in Jefferson county. Mr. Greenlees was a member of the Methodist church at Faith and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 55 years. He was also a veteran of the Civil War. The deceased was a brother of W.J. Greenlees of Rison. He is survived by his wife, five daughters and three sons. Interment was made in the cemetery near Faith with services at the grave in charge of the Culpepper lodge, F. and A.M. of Rison, which was his request. A number of Rison friends and relatives attended the burial Saturday afternoon. MRS. STANLEY ALLNUT Mrs. Stanley Allnut, age 53 years died at her home in Monroe, La., Saturday night. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Talullah, La. Mrs. Allnut was born near old Clio, this county, and there grew to young womanhood. Upon her marriage several years ago she moved to Louisiana with her husband. She is survived by her husband, Stanley Allnut of Monroe, and four sisters, Mrs. John Sadler of this city, Mrs. A.a. Preston of Selma, La.; Mrs. J.N. McFadden and Mrs. Frank Van Delden of Miami, Fla., and three brothers, H.C. Sinclair of Miami, Fla., and J.A. and Walter Sinclair of Jackson, Miss. MRS. LAURENA H. CUTHBERSON Mrs. Laurena H. Cuthberson age 75, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.A. Kelly, at Bearden Saturday. The deceased was a former resident of the county, having lived for a number of years near Clio. She was born in Stanley county, North Carolina, and moved to Arkansas when only five years of age. She was a member of the Mt. Carmel Methodist church for 57 years. The remains were brought here Sunday and buried in the Mt. Carmel cemetery eight miles north of Rison. She is survived by four sons, C.C. of Reader, W.O. and Frank of Pine Bluff and C.A.S. Cuthberson of Broken Bow, Okla.; three daughters, Mrs. J.A. Kelly of Bearden, Mrs. C.C. Green of Fordyce and Mrs. A.M. Steart of Albuquerque, N.Mex.; and two sisters, Mrs. M.E. Kendall and Mrs. R.M. Hamilton, both of Rison. February 18, 1926 DAN KIMBRELL "Herbine"-Killed by a Falling Tree Dan Kimbrell, formerly of this community, was accidentally killed by a falling tree Thursday while working in the woods. Interment was made in Prosperity cemetery Friday afternoon. He is survived by his wife, five children, his mother and father and several sisters and brothers. FAYNE CURRY Child Killed by Roll of Fencing Wire Sun. In a tragic accident at his home near Rye Sunday shortly after noon, Fayne Curry, three year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Coke Curry, lost his life when he was crushed to death by a roll of fencing wire. The little boy had been to the home of his grandparents about one quarter of a mile away and had started home, and it is thought that upon reaching the roll of wire he stopped to play on it. When it began to roll, it forced the child into a ditch pinning him beneath the heavy wire. There were no witnesses to the accident and it is thought that death was instantaneous. The body was discovered by his parents soon afterwards. He is survived by his parents and one sister. Burial was at Union cemetery Monday afternoon. MRS. PEARL QUINN CASH Mrs. Pearl Quinn Cash died at her home in Helena Sunday morning after a long illness. The remains were brought here and funeral services held at the Methodist church of which she was a member, Monday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. B.f. Musser, pastor of the church. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Frances Lee, 9; and three sons, James W., 6; Joseph,4, and Homer,1; two brothers, Chas. Quinn of Pine Bluff and Roy Quinn of Memphis and one sister, Mrs. Jessie Adair of Stamps. Mrs. Cash was born at Rison July 14, 1895, and spent her childhood and young womanhood here. On January 7, 1916, she was married to James Cash. Soon after their marriage they moved from Rison and lived in PIne Bluff until their removal to Helena two years ago. She was a popular young lady and possessed a strong and beautiful Christian character. February 25, 1926 TED L. SMITH Death Claims Ted L. Smith Here Monday Ted L. Smith, aged 35 years, died at his home here Monday night. The deceased is survived by his wife and four children, his mother, Mrs. Jennie Smith of Pine Bluff; and three brothers, Fayette of Little Rock, Hammock of Pine Bluff and Frank of Texas. Interment was made in the Cross Roads cemetery Tuesday afternoon at three o'clock. Services were in charge of Rev. J.E. Waddell of the Methodist church and Rev. C.M. Miller of the Baptist Church. March 4, 1926 J. ALBERT TISDALE DEAD J. Albert Tisdale, age 45, died at his home in Little Rock last Tuesday after a very short illness. He is survived by his wife and five children, all of Little Rock. Mr. Tisdale, who is the son of N.R. Tisdale, former postmaster of Kingsland, lived in Rison several years and was a member of the local Woodmen Camp. Burial was in Little Rock cemetery with services conducted by the Rev. D.H. Colquet. March 11, 1926 MRS. M. HANKINS, AGED 98, IS DEAD County's Oldest Resident Died at Home in Whiteville Township Within less than a month of her 99th birthday, Mrs. Martha Hankins, one of the oldest, if not the oldest, resident of Clevland county, died monday morning at her home in Whiteville township. Head the deceased lived until March 31 she would have passed the 99th milestone. "Grandma" Hankins, as she was affectionatly known in the eastern part of the county and in adjourning counties, had been in excellent health up until a short time ago and her death will come as a distinct surprise to her many friends who were of the belief that she would live past the century mark. For several years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ellen Dean, and her birthdays have been the occasion of a reunion of the Hankins family which is one of the oldest and largest in this section of the state. Mrs. Hankins lost her husband several years ago by death, and has lived within a stones throw of her present home for 72 years. The deceased is survived by four sons, Franklin Hankins of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Mrs. Ellen Dean of Whiteville township and Mrs. Frank Foster of near Rison. A large number of grand, great and great-great-grandchildren survive. Interment was made in New Home cemetery Tuesday afternoon with the funeral services conducted by the Rev. Mr. Calvert. March 18, 1926 J.L. PHELPS DEAD "Rowell"-- Funeral services for J.L. Phelps who died Wednesday morning of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J.L. Barrett, at Lee Springs, were held at Rowell Thursday, burial being in Rowell cemetery. Mr. Phelps was 70 years old and had lived in Cleveland county for the past 50 years. He is survived by four sons, Jas L. Phelps, Dearborn, Mich.: M.B. Phelps, Rowell; Edward and Homer Phelps, and five daughters, Misses Laura and Engenia Phelps of Calmer,Mrs. J.L. Barnett of Lee Springs; Mrs. G.A. Harris, Calmer, and Mrs. John Culpepper of Palmyra. J.C. CHILDERS #1 OF 2 J.C. Childers died Mon. At His Home Near Here J.C. Childers, a well known and highly respected farmer of Cleveland county died at his home several miles north of Kingsland Monday afternoon. Mr. Childers had been seriously ill for several weeks. MRS. J.Z. HAMMONDS Mrs. J.Z. Hammonds, aged 57, died at her home in Dallas county last week. Burial was made in the Temperance Hill cemetery. Funeral services were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. J.E. Waddell, of this place. March 25, 1926 MRS. WILL PARISH "Rye"--Mrs. Will Parish of Star City died Saturday. Her remains were laid to rest in Union cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church by Rev. J.M. Patrick pastor of the Freewill Baptist church. She is survived by her husband and several children. JOHN C. CHILDERS #2 OF 2 John C. Childers, age 79 years, a well known and highly respected farmer of Cleveland county died March 15 at his home north of Kingsland after eight weeks illness. He is survived by his wife, seven children, Mrs. F.E. Wilson, Lamesa, Texas; Mrs. H.H. Darby, Mrs. Julia Connell and Miss Mae Childers, Kingsland; R.L. Childers, Hugo, Okla.; L.C. Childers, Malvern; and C.H. Childers, Monticello; one brother, U.G. childers, Sheridan; 23 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. He was laid to rest in the Kennedy cemetery with funeral services conducted by Rev. R.A. Raney of Carthage and Rev. J.E. Waddell of Kingsland. April 1, 1926 JOHN RUTLEDGE CALLED BY DEATH Pioneer Citizen of Rison Comunity Dies Alone At His Home Death came to John C. Rutledge, age 76, Thursday night while he slept at his home one mile east of Rison. No one was with him at the time of his death and the discovery of his demise was made about noon Friday by Walter Lloyd, near neighbor, who had become alarmed when Mr. Rutledge failed to go to the Lloyd home Friday morning, as had been his custom for several days, because of illness in the Lloyd family. Upon reaching the Rutledge home and failing to receive an answer to his calls, Mr. Lloyd began to look for his neighbor and through the window discovered the body lying in a sleeping position on a bed near the window. He immediately notified Rison people. Mr. Rutledge was born March 10, 1850, in Dallas county near Princeton, moving to this section when a lad. He was married in 1880 to Miss Sallee Williams who died two years afterwards. In 1884 he was married to Miss Mollie Blackerby, who died in 1902. Death came to her while asleep. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church here Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. B.F. Musser, pastor. Burial was made in front of his home beside the grave of his wife. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. C.A. Martin and Mrs. C.L. Garner of Rison and three sisters,Mrs. D.R. Mullis of Rison, Mrs. Joe Blackwell of Pine Bluff, and Mrs. Jim Feaster of Fordyce. For several years Mr. Rutledge had been spending part of his time at his home near town and part of the time with his daughters. MRS. ALBERT PHILLIPS Mrs. Albert Phillips, age 74, died at her home two miles west of Rison Sunday after a long illness. She was born December 13, 1852, in Waynesboro, North Carolina, and was married there in 1875. She was a member of the Baptist church since 13 years of age and at the time of her death was a member of the Rison Baptist church. Surviving are her husband and one son, Vancy Phillips of Rison. Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon by the Rev. George F. Moody. The remains were laid to rest in Moore's church cemetery. J.B. BILLINGS DEAD J.B. Billings, age 81, died at the home of his son, J.W. Billings Sunday, March 21, after an illness of several weeks. For almost a week Mr. Billings' condition had been considered improved and he had been sitting up until Saturday when he became worse. He was born in Howard county, this state, making that section his home for a number of years. More than 30 years ago, he moved to Little Rock where he lived until the death of his wife five years ago. Since that time he has made his home with his son, who is the only surviving member of the family. MRS. ELIZA ROYSTER #1 of 2 "North Concord" Many readers of the Herald will be sad to learn of the death of Mrs. Eliza Royster. Mrs. Royster once lived in this neighborhood and had many friends here. VODIE VALENTINE Vodie Valentine, age about 37, a brother of Ross Valentine of Rison, died suddenly Tuesday afternoon at his home in Bradley county, near Warren. Interment was made Wednesday afternoon at Prosperity in the southern part of this county. Besides his wife, he leaves five children. MRS. H.N. ROYSTER #2 OF 2 Mrs. Margaret E. Royster, age 60, died at her home in Pine Bluff Friday after a long illness. She is the widow of the late H.N. Royster and resided with her husband in Rison for a number of years. The remains were shipped here Sunday morning and carried to the home of her niece, Mrs. Richard Andrews. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Geo F. Moody at Bethel Church Sunday afternoon. Interment was made in the Moore's church burying ground. She is survived by two sons; Merle and Ed, both of Chicago; one daughter, Mrs. T.White of Pine Bluff and one sister, Mrs. L.L. Jaggers, also of Pine Bluff. INFANT DAVIS The infant son of Prof. and Mrs. J.H. Davis died suddenly at the home of his parents here Tuesday at noon. He is survived by his parents and three brothers. The remains were carried to Caddo Gap Wednesday morning accompanied by Mrs. Earl Witt, the baby's aunt and Rev. B.F. Musser, pastor of the Methodist church. Interment was made in the family burying ground at Caddo Gap. MRS. IDA MILLER Mrs. Ida P. Miller, 33 years old, wife of J.A. Miller, prominent farmer of Rowell, died at a Pine Bluff hospital Thursday, March 25, after a short illness. Mrs. Miller was a native of the Rowell community and had resided there all her life. She was a member of the Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband and father, M. H. Reed, of Rowell, four brothers, Garvin, CArl, Edgarand J.L. Reed of Rowell; and three sisters, Mrs. Linna Jacks, Misses Velma and Ruby Reed of Rowell. Funeral services were held Friday at the Center Church and interment was made in the burying ground there. MRS. L.A. REED Mrs. L.A. Reed age 44, died at her home at Calmer March 25, after a long illness. For several weeks her condition was such as to cause those about her to lose hopes of her recovery. She had been a resident of this neighborhood the larger portion of her life, and was married to Luther Reed in 1900. She was a member of the Baptist church. Mrs. Reed is survived by her husband, father, J.H. Wooley of Calmer; four sons, Oliver, Owen,Bernard and Leonard Reed of Calmer; three daughters, Bessie, Pearl and Louise Reed, also of Calmer; five brothers and two sisters. April 8, 1926 MRS. BELLE FOSTER, WIFE OF JUDGE FOSTER IS DEAD Mrs. Belle Foster, age 64, wife of County Judge R.F. Foster, died at her home at Toledo near here Thursday night. Mrs. Foster, before her marriage was Miss Belle Hankins, a daughter of Mrs. Martha Hankins who died less than a month ago at the age of 98. She was born and reared in this county and has made her home here a greater part of the time since. She was possessed of a noble Christian character and had a wide circle of friends. She was a member of the Rison Methodist church. She is survived by her husband, two sons, Cleve Foster of Texas and Ben Foster of Rison, three daughters, Mrs. Wilbur Norton and Mrs. Porter Case of Calmer and Miss Mamie Foster of Little Rock; four brothers, Franklin, H.A., J.D. and Carter Hankins and one sister, Mrs. Ellen Dean. Funeral services were conducted from the home by the Rev. H.A.F. Ault, pastor of the Methodist church at Rowell. Burial was made in Greenwood cemetery here. CHAS. T. BREWER DEAD Chas. T. Brewer of PIne Bluff a former citizen of this county, died Sunday night at the Cotton Belt Hospital in Texarkana. Until four years ago, when he moved to Pine Bluff, Mr. Brewer lived near Rison since a child. The remains were carried overland to the Black cemetery north of Rison where funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning. Interment was made there. He is survived by his wife and six sons, I.B., John, H.K., and Tom of Pine Bluff and Havis and Oliver of Rison; three daughters, Misses Elsie and Julian of Pine Bluff and Mrs. E.O. Jones of Rison, and one sister, Mrs. Mollie Klein of Thornton. April 5, 1926 INFANT LLOYD DEAD The three week's old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lloyd died at the home of her parents one mile east of Rison Tuesday morning. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning by the Rev. H.A. F. Ault of the Rowell circuit, Methodist church. Interment was made in Greenwood cemetery here. The child is survived by it's parents, one brother and two sisters. April 22, 1926 T.D.LOVE, AGE 77, DIED NEAR HERE WEDNESDAY T.D. Love, aged 77 years, died at the home of his son, Rev. C.M. Love, two miles west of town Wednesday afternoon. The body was laid to rest in the Prosperity cemetery, 8 miles south of Rison, Thursday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. J.E. Waddell, pastor of the Methodist church of this place. The deceased is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Bryant, Warren; Mrs. Venie Goodrich, Little Rock; Mrs. Joe McLean, of this city; and four sons, Bill of Little Rock, W.O., Carroll and Charley of Kingsland. April 29, 1926 MRS. LOUIE SMITH News was received here Monday of the death of Mrs. Louie Smith of Mt. Holly at an El Dorado hospital following an illness of several days. Mrs. Smith was formerly Miss Maggie Payne and was a sister of Mrs. George Tolson of this place who was with her when she died. Mrs. Smith has visited here upon several occasions and had many friends here. She is survived by her husband, two sons and several brothers and sisters. MRS. LUCY GLOVER "Kingsland"--The remains of Mrs. Lucy Glover who died suddenly of acute indigestion Monday, April 26 at the home of her sister, Mrs. Wallingsport, at Arkadelphia where she was visiting, were brought here Tuesday for burial in the Cross Roads cemetery, four miles north of town. The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Eddy Bryant of this place and Mrs. Esaw Sparks of Camden. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. C.M. Miller, pastor of the Baptist church here. May 6, 1926 MRS. SUSIE HARTLEY "Macedonia, Lee Township"-- Mrs. Jessie Brown was called to near Merle's Ranch Sunday to attend the funeral of her sister, Mrs. Susie Hartley, who died that morning at five o'clock. She was the daughter of B.F. Trammell and had many friends and relatives in Lee township. May 13, 1926 MISS DELL MOSLEY "Kingsland"--Death Claims Miss Dell Mosley Saturday Miss Dell Mosley, age 16, daughter of Mayor and Mrs. T.E. Mosley, died at a hospital in Little Rock Saturday morning following an operation. Besides her parents, the deceased is survived by one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Selmon, and one brother, Jack Mosley. SALLIE BERRY DEAD "Rye"--Mrs. Sallie Berry, age 82, died at the State Hospital in Little Rock Saturday at two o'clock. Her remains were laid to rest in Union cemetery Sunday afternoon. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Murray. The deceased is survived by one brother, one sister and several nieces and nephews. June 3, 1926 J.F. SWANSON DEAD J.F. Swanson, age 70, died at his home in Cumberland, Maryland Monday night following an illness with pneumonia, according to a dispatch received by friends of the family here Tuesday morning. Mr. Swanson was a former citizen of Rison and had many friends here. For a number of years he was one of the managers of the J.I. Porter Lumber Company. He was a member of the Baptist church and was very active in Church work. He took a keen interest in all movements for the uplift and betterment of his community. He is survived by his wife; three sons, James N. Swanson of Jonesboro, and Chester and Ralph Swanson of Cumberland; one daughter, Miss Grace Swanson, also of Cumberland. The message did not state when or where interment would be made. MRS. ALICE RODGERS Mrs. Alice Rodgers, 65 years of age, wife of W.M. Rodgers of Whiteville township, died thursday night at the home of her son, W.J. rodgers in PIne Bluff, after a long illness. She had been a resident of this county for more than 40 years and was one of the most beloved citizens in her section. She was a member of the New Home Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, three daughters, Mrs. W.L. Austin, Misses Lydia and Esther Rodgers; seven sons, T.F., J.F., F.M., B.L., and V.V. Rodgers, all of Whiteville township. H.C. Rodgers of Laredo, Texas, and W.J. Rodgers of Pine Bluff. The remains were carried to New Home cemetery, near her home, Friday where funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. Calvert. ELMER BRAZEALE Elmer Brazeale, age 25, died at his home here Thursday at noon, after a long illness. Young Brazeale had lived here for about three years, moving here with his mother and brothers from Bearden when J.L. Williams and Sons first began the operation of their mill near here. He was a nephew of Mr. Williams. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Lila Brazeale and four brothers, Elbert, Frank, and Robert Brazeale of Rison; and Jasper Brazeale of Sparkman. The remains were carried overland to Chapel Hill Church in Dallas County, near Bearden, where funeral services were held. Burial was in Chapel Hill cemetery. HOWELL MORGAN DEAD "Kingsland"--Howell Morgan died in the hospital in Little Rock Tuesday morning following an operation a few days prior. The deceased had been in ill health for some time, having undergone two operations in a hospital in El Doradoin the last few months. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Jennie Word, New Edinburg, and Mrs. Neelie Kerlee of Oklahoma; five brothers, Ray and Edgar Morgan of Warren, and Wm., George and Watt Morgan of Kingsland. MRS. HENRIETTA MCKINZIE Mrs. Henrietta McKenzie, age 35 years, wife of Tillman McKinzie, died at a hospital in LIttle Rock Saturday following an operation. Funeral services were conducted at the McCoy cemetery Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. C.M. Miller. The deceased is survived by her husband and one daughter; mother, step father, one sister, four half sisters and one half brother. Mrs. McKenzie was a member of the Baptist church having united with that church in 1919. June 10, 1926 LEE HARGUS "Edinburg"-Edinburg Youth Burned Fatally/ Lee Hargus and Companion Meet Death in Oil Field Accident. Interment of Lee Hargus, age 25, who was fatally burned Wednesday night when trapped in a blazing auto near Norphlet, was made in the cemetery at New Edinburg Friday afternoon. Young Hargus and Mrs. Nettie Ray, also of Norphlet, were returning from a dance near Norphlet when their car ran over a two-foot gas torch about 300 yards from the dance hall. The vertical connection was snapped off at the ground and the high pressure gas ignited by the heat of the motor. Before they could escape from the burning car, the couple was caught in the flames. Hargus, who was found about 30 yards from the car with his body terribly burned, both eyes burned out and the tissues of his lungs destroyed, died in the hospital about 3 o'clock Thursday morning. Mrs. Ray died a few hours later. He was employed by the Nettle Creek Refining Company of Norphlet. His father, M. Hargus, resides in Redland township. J.E. MADDOX E.R. Maddox of this city was called to Harrisburg last Thursday on account of the death of his father, J.E. Maddox, age 69, who died at a Jonesboro hospital Thursday after a lingering illness. Mr. Maddox had lived at Harrisburg for 18 years, having moved there from Kentucky. He was a brother of Mrs. W.A. Rone of this city. He leaves five sons and three daughters. Funeral services were held at Harrisburg Friday. June 17, 1926 LEON TAYLOR Child Dies From Drink Of Poison/ Little Leon Taylor Lingered for 12 hours After Taking Drink Little Leon Taylor, two-year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Taylor of Whiteoak township, died at the home of Dr. A.J. Hamilton about 4:30 Saturday morning, over 12 hours after he had drunk a poisonous solution containing 50 percent of carbolic acid. The child in playing about the home early Friday afternoon found the bottle of poison which had been left in a back room by former occupants of the house. Upon taking a swallow of the contents of the bottle, the parents were first warned by its screams. As they rushed into the room the child, it is said, had started toward the bucket containing water. The father rushed the child to Rison in a car but delay was encountered near town when they gave out of gasoline. After waiting a few minutes a passing motorist picked them up and rushed them here where medical treatment was started immediately. Medical treatment was of little avail as almost an hour had elapsed from the time of the drinking of the poison until treatment was first started. Stimulants prolonged the child's death. The fatal poison had been prepared for the killing of rodents, it is belie three daughters, Mrs. J.A. Kelly of Bearden, Mrs. C.C. Green of Fordyce and Mrs. A.M. Steart of Albuquerque, N.Mex.; and two sisters, Mrs. M.E. Kendall and Mrs. R.M. Hamilton, both of Rison. June 24, 1926 JACK PASCHAL One Negro Killed, Two Injured At Celebration As a result of a quarrel at a negro celebration at New Edinburg Saturday, Jack Paschall, a negro,aged 25 was shot and killed by Coot Hall, another negro, late Saturday afternoon. In the fray Hall was wounded by Paschall and Carthage Tolefree, another young negro, who was a bystander, was struck by a stray bullet and is in a serious condition in a Pine Bluff hospital. Hall is said to be in no danger, although he was not able to be moved by officers. Little is known of the nature and circumstances leading up to the quarrel which immediately preceeded the shooting. An inquest was held by Justice J.L. Harris of Kingsland and the verdict of the coroner's jury held hall for a preliminary hearting shich will be called as son as his condition will permit. July 1, 1926 W.T. HARRIS, PROMINENT CALMER MAN, IS DEAD #1 of 2 Calmer, June 28--W.T. Harris, age 53, died Wednesday morning about five o'clock at his home here after an illness of over a week. Interment was made in the Wesley's Chapel cemetery by the Rev. Geo. F. Moody of Rison. Mr. Harris was a prominent citizen of Miller township and was highly esteemed by his neighbors and friends. The deceased is survived by his wife and three sons, Clyde Harris of Pine Bluff and Garvin and Kermitt Harris of Calmer. Mr. Harris was a member of the Baptist church for 33 years. L.E. Musser, pastor of the Rison Methodist church. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. INFANT LEDERMAN "Kingsland"--The baby of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Lederman died Monday. Interment was made in the Kingsland cemetery Tuesday. July 15, 1926 WILLIAM T. HARRIS #2 of 2 William T. Harris was born Feby. 25, 1873 and died June 23, 1926, and was laid to rest in Wesley's Chapel cemetery the following day. Rev. George F. Moody of Rison spoke words of praise and offered sympathy and hope to the relatives. A great number of people who had come for miles around were there to pay their last respects to this esteemed citizen. In the early days of manhood he was married to Miss Lula Norton. To them were born three children, Clyde, Garvin and Kermit, all of whom are living. He joined the Baptist church about 37 years ago and was a devoted member. Truth, honest and virtue were the highest aims in his life. He was firm in his convictions. He was always ready to help the distressed and to encourage the weak. In this way he helped many and made friends to all. The floral offerings were veritable expressions of love and sympathy. We weep but are happy in the thought that Jesus cares and through faith in Him the early parting shall be but for a little while. MATTIE WELLS "New Edinburg", July 27--News has been received here of the death of Mrs. Mattie Wells, aged 70, of Ruston, La., which occured Friday, July 23. Mrs. Wells is the mother of Mrs. John Stuart of this place and the widow of the late R.T. Wells of Monticello. Other than Mrs. Stuart, two sons and one daughter survive. VELMA WOODSON Mrs. Velma Woodson of Little Rock, who was formerly Miss Velma Henderson of this place, died at a Little Rock Hospital Tuesday, July 20, after a short illness. She was 27 years old and for several years a pupil in the local school. She was a member of the Pulaski Heights Baptist Church. Her remains were brought to Pine Bluff where interment was made. The deceased is survived by her husband, Ellis B. Woodson, a daughter Amyl; a son, Bruce, all of Little Rock; a sister Mrs. Harvey Milner of Pine Bluff; and two brothers, Ira and J.B. SMITH 75, CALLED IN DEATH President of Local Bank and Engaged in Mercantile Business "Kingsland"--The community suffered a serious loss in the passing of one of its esteemed citizens, C.F. Smith, age 75, who died Friday night at 11:30. He had been confined to his home here for the past several months due to his failing health. Mr. Smith for the past four years had been president of the Cleveland County Bank and held this position at the time of his death. He was a member of the mercantile firm of Smith and Mosley. He was a native of Louisiana, coming to Arkansas in early childhood and spent the remaining years of his life in Bradley and Cleveland counties. He was engaged in farming and the operation of a gin until 25 years ago when he entered the mercantile business at New Edinburg. Twelve years later he moved to Kingsland and has for the past 13 years been engaged in the mercantile business here. The deceased is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. T.E. Mosley of this place; several grandchildren and great grandchidren. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services were conducted Saturday by Rev. J.E. Waddell, pastor of the Methodist church with burial in Marks cemetery. August 6, 1926 MRS. MARY J. FULMER "New "Edinburg", August 3--Mrs. Mary J. Fulmer, aged 77, wife of R.F. Fulmer, died at her home here Monday, following an illness of several days. Mrs. Fulmer was before her marriage in 1886, Miss Mary Jane Carmical and was one of the oldest and most beloved citizens of this section. She was born September 23, 1848, in Cowita County, Georgia, but had been a resident of Cleveland county for many years. She is survived by her husband of New Edinburg; two brothers, William and John Carmical and one sister, Mrs. Emma Elliott, all of Texas. Funeral services and burial were conducted at the McCoy cemetery here Tuesday. R.M. DOSTER DIED THURSDAY MORN "Kingsland" Prominent Lumberman of This City Dies After Lingering Illness R.M. Doster, well known local lumberman, died at his home here Thursday morning after an illness which had extended over a period of several years. Mr. Doster was born January 2, 1859, in South Carolina but for the past 35 years had made his home here where he has been engaged in the lumber interests. The deceased is survived by his wife; three sons, Roy, Frank and Alva Doster, all of Kingsland, two daughters, Misses Lola and Gladys Doster, also of Kingsland; two brothers, S.J. Doster of Phoenix, Ariz., and F.W. Doster of Rye. He was a member of the Baptist church. Funeral services were conducted at his home Friday by Rev. C.M. Miller, pastor of the local Baptist church. Burial was in the Kingsland cemetery under the direction of the Benton Mortuary of Fordyce. MRS. BRUCE CALAWAY Former Kingsland Woman Dies News was received here of the death Friday at her home in Bearden of Mrs. Bruce Calaway. She was formerly Miss Clarice Walker of this place. Mrs. Callaway is survived by her husband, one son, her father, J.F. Walker, one brother, Frank Walker, and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Bearden Methodist church Saturday and the body was brought to the Johnson cemetery here for interment. JOHN L. HORNADY John L. Hornady, age 36, of Fordyce died at a Little Rock hospital July 22 from injuries received while at work on a log train near Fordyce, the same day. The train had been switching and the impact in re-coupling caused him to lose his balance and fall between the wheels of one of the cars, two wheels passing over his body. He was carried immediately to Little Rock where he received hospital attention, but died shortly after reaching there. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Fannie Hornady, of Fordyce; six sisters and three brothers. Barney Hornady of this city is a brother of the deceased. August 11, 1926 MRS. E.F. SALLIE YOUNG Rye, August 24--Mrs. Sallie Young, died Friday, August 20, at three a.m. after a long illness, at the home of Mrs. H.T. Young. She was 84 years of age. Mrs. Young is survived by two sons, R.W. Young of Rye and C.M. Young of Lake Village; 25 grandchildren and 45 great grandchildren. She joined the Methodist church when quite young and has been a devout Christian and faithful member. Her remains were laid to rest in Union cemetery Saturday, August 21. Rev. J.M. DOROTHY OLDNER #1 of 2 "Kingsland News"-- Dorothy Oldner, aged 13 years, died at her home near Draughon Friday. VELMA THOMAS Miss Velma Thomas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nat Thomas, died in a Little Rock hospital Friday morning, Sept. 3. ANNIE DOROTHY OLDNER #2 of 2 On August 27, 1926, Annie Dorothy Oldner answered the call of her heavenly Father to join the Angel chorus around the great white throne in Heaven. Dorothy was next to the youngest child of Mr. and Mrs. John Oldner of Draughon. She was born Nov. 21, 1912. Her passing away was quietly and peacefully. Dorothy leaves four sisters and three brothers. She was a bright and beautiful child and the members of her family and friends and school mates will always love and cherish her memory. She was a member of the Methodist church at Draughon and was such a happy worker in the Sunday school where she will be missed. CLARENCE GREENLEES Mrs. Clarence Greenless, age 32, died at her home east of Rison Thursday morning after an illness of several weeks. She is survived by her husband, one daughter, Ouida, and a son Hoyle. Funeral services were conducted at 11 o'clock Friday morning at Wesley's Chapel. Burial was made in the cemetery at that place. HAMAKER DEAD New Edinburg, Sept 14-- A.L Hamaker, who has been confined to his bed for some time, died at his home near here Saturday afternoon at five o'clock. He was 81 years of age. September 30, 1926 MISS WILLIE NIVEN Miss Willie Niven, age about 45, died Sunday night at the home of her father, W.A. Niven, four miles south of Pine Bluff near Watson's Chapel, after a long illness. Miss Niven was born in this county near Clio where she lived until she was grown when she went to Pine Bluff. Her career as a business woman was successful and she had been connected with a number of leading business houses of Pine Bluff. She was a member of the First Methodist church of PIne Bluff. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday morning by Rev. L.E. N. Hundley and Rev. M.E. Scott. She is survived by her father and two sisters, Mrs. Ida Mathews and Mrs. John D. Ward, all of Pine Bluff. JOE LEE MARTIN "Rye"--Joe Lee Martin, age 31 years, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Martin, died Saturday morning at 3 o'clock at Wilmar. The remains were brought to Union cemetery for burial Sunday. Rev. H.A.F. Ault conducted the funeral services. Mr. Martin's father died when he was quite small and his mother followed when he was only a boy in his teens. HOMER RAULS "Herbine"--Homer Rauls, the baby of Mr. and Mrs. Barney Rauls of England died Monday, September 20, and was brought to Prosperity Tuesday for burial. VIRGIL TERRY SERIOUSLY INJURED BY FALLING TREE (Obit to follow) Virgil Terry, well-known young man who lives four miles south of Rison, is in serious condition at a Pine Bluff hosital as the result of injuries recieved here Tuesday morning while cutting timber for Tate & Varnell in Grant County. Terry's skull is crushed and doubt is expressed for his recovery. He had sawed a tree which in falling caused a limb from another tree to fall, striking him on the top of the head as he was attempting to release his saw from the falling tree. He was rendered unconscious from the blow. Medical aid was summond from Rison and later Terry was carried in ambalance to Pine Bluff. October 7, 1926 VIRGIL TERRY "Injuries Prove Fatal to Young Timberman" Funeral services for Virgil C. Terry, age 28, who died Wednesday afternoon at a Pine Bluff hospital following injuries received the day before while cutting timber in Grant county were held at the Rison Methodist church by Rev. B.F. Musser Saturday afternoon. Burial was in Greenwood cemetery. Young Terry never regained consciousness after being struck upon the head by a falling limb which was dislodged from another tree by one he had just sawed down. His skull was crushed and he suffered a concussion of the brain. He was born near old Toledo and spent his entire life in this county. He is survived by six brothers, Lewis of Little Rock, Will and Marvin of St. Louis, Bert, with the U.S. Navy in California; and Ed and Judd of Rison; three sisters, Mrs. V.B. Chism of Marshall, Texas; Mrs. Charlie Lee of Mississipi, and Mrs. Ben T. Cash of Rison. MRS. JESSE ALFORD Mrs. Jesse Alford, age 45, died at her home in Pine Bluff Friday night after a long illness. Mrs. Alford, who was before her marriage about 15 years ago, Miss Lucille Sinclair, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Sinclair and was a native of Cleveland county and made her home near Rison until her removal to Pine Bluff several years ago. She possessed all the characteristics of a noble woman and was loved by all her acquaintances. She was a member of the Lakeside Methodist church of Pine Bluff. Mrs. Alford is survived by four sisters, Mesdames Ivy Johnson, Alice Harlow, D.M. Mitchell and Ira Rhodes, all of Pine Bluff and two brothers, Beason Sinclair of Houston, Texas, and Earnest Sinclair of Alaska. Funeral services were conducted from the First Methodist church in Pine Bluff Sunday afternoon, several Rison people attending. ANETTE DANIELS "New Edinburg"--Anette Daniels, the two year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Haywood Daniels of Mansfield, Ohio, died Sept. 24. The remains were brought here and buried at the Shady Grove cemetery September 26. October 14, 1926 ELISHA DAVID TICE Elisha David Tice died at his home two miles northwest of Rison Friday morning after a long illness. The deceased is survived by his wife, four sons, Jess, Hugh James, Andrew and Joe Tice; two daughters, Elizabeth and Louise Tice, all of Rison; two brothers Henry and Frank Tice of Marshall, N.C. and one sister Mrs. John Evans of Voss, N.C. Mr. Tice was born in Anderson county, North CArolina, November 3, 1867. He was married to Miss Alma Lane of Rison, October 25, 1896, and has made his home here since. He was a very active man until more than a year ago when his health failed, having been confined to his bed for many months. Funeral services were conducted late Friday afternoon by Rev. B.F. Sadler of this place died Tuesday night at Ocala, Florida, where he had recently gone. His remains will be returned for interment. Besides his wife and father he leaves three sisters and four brothers. October 28, 1926 LUTHER SADLER #2 of 2 Funeral services for Luther Sadler, age 22, who died at Jacksonville, Florida, October 19, were conducted by Rev. B.F. Musser at Greenwood cemetery here Friday afternoon where interment was made. Mr. Sadler, who had been in ill health for several months, has been at the home of his brother Lonnie Sadler, at Ocala, Florida for some time and had started on his return trip home, acompanied by Mrs. Lonnie Sadler. They had reached Jacksonville and boarded a train for Memphis when he collapsed and died about five minutes before the train departed. The body was removed to an undertaking parlor where it was prepared and shipped here for burial. The deceased was reared near Rison and for the past few years has resided in Harper township at the home of his wife's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.W. Morrison. He was at one time engaged in business in Rison. Besides his wife he is survived by his father, J.C. Sadler, of this place; four brothers, Lonnie and Frank Sadler of Ocala, Florida; and Everette and Jake Sadler of Pine Bluff; three sisters, Mrs. J.D. Ratteree of Monticello, Mrs. Bennie Cash of Pine Bluff and Mrs. Lee Greenlees of near Rison. November 4, 1926 ED HENDERSON FORMER RISON BOY IS KILLED : NEGRO WHO SHOT ED HENDERSON, FORMER RISON BOY, IS KILLED Funeral services for Ed Henderson, aged 24 years, who was instantly killed Wednesday near Pine Bluff by a negro desperado, were conducted by the Rev. H.W. Jean, pastor of the Rison Baptist Church , at Greenwood cemetery here Friday afternoon. The large crowd that attended the services from Rison and from Pine Bluff and flower-covered mound attest to the esteem in which the deceased was held in the communities where he was best known. Young Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John H. Henderson was reared in Rison and lived here all his life until three years ago when he moved to Pine Bluff with his parents, having made his home there since. He was a very popular young man among the people with whom he associated and was always known for his honesty and frankness. He is survived by his parents, five brothers, Holly, Pat, J.S., Basil and Clint Henderson, and one sister Eva Mae Henderson, all of Pine Bluff. SHOT WHILE ON A HORSE The unfortunate youth was slain by Bud Nelson, a negro tenant on the place which J.H. Henderson was farming. It is said that there had been no trouble whatever between young Henderson and the negro. The youth was in search of some mules which had strayed away from home and was supposed to have asked Nelson about them just before he was shot while sitting on his horse. The black used a Winchester rifle, the bullet striking him in the neck and ranging through the brain, killing him instantly. The body of Nelson was discovered Monday in a cypress brake near Tarry. It was riddled by bullets and he was thought to have been dead several days. How he met death is not known, but evidence of a struggle was found near the body. Finding of Nelson's body by a planter living at Tarry ended a manhunt which had been carried on by officers of Jefferson, Lincoln and Cleveland counties since the murder took place. There were no witneses to the tragedy. Nelson, in fleeing from the scene, said to two other negroes near, "I have killed Ed Henderson, he didn't think that I would do it, but I just showed him." November 11, 1926 MRS. EMMA BUSTER "Kingsland News" Mrs. Emma Buster Dead: Interment Made Here The body of Mrs. Emma Buster, who died at her home in Little Rock last Tuesday afternoon, was brought here Thursday and laid to rest in the Kingsland cemetery. The deceased is survived by her husband, W.H. Buster, and one sister, Mrs. R.H. Putney, of Eagle Lake, Texas. Mr. and Mrs. Buster formerly resided here, but for the past four years have made their home in Little Rock. Mrs. Buster or "Miss Emma" as everyone here called her, had a wide circle of friends who are saddened at her death and sympathize with the bereaved husband and sister. November 18, 1926 ROBERT W. BLANCHARD Robert W. Banchard, age 46, editor and publisher of the Sheridan Headlight of Sheridan, died at a Little Rock hospital Tuesday after a short illness. Mr. Blanchard was one of the leaders in public and civic affairs of his town and county and was well known in the state press circles. He has many acquaintances in Cleveland County. He is survived by his wife and two sisters. OUANDA MEEKS "Kingsland News"--Child Run Down By Car News was received here early Sunday morning of the death of Ouanda Meeks, four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Meeks of Pine Bluff. The child was run down by a car driven by a negro and she was instantly killed. Mrs. Meeks was formerly Miss Addie Mitchell of this place. December 2, 1926 JAMES ELLIOTT SUMEROW DIED THURSDAY NIGHT James Elliott Sumerow, age 41 of this place died Thursday night at Hot Springs after an illness of several months. Funeral services were conducted at Greenwood cemetery Saturday afternoon at two o'clock by the Rev. B.F. Musser, pastor of the Rison Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member. Burial was in Greenwood. Mr. Sumerow was born at Toledo March 6, 1885. He was married in 1905 to Miss Ethel McLeod who was at the time of her death in 1922, editor and owner of the Cleveland County Herald. Mr. Sumerow is survived by one son, Jack Sumerow, of Hot Springs, his mother, Mrs. L.V. Sumerow, Oklahoma City, and two sisters, Mrs. P.A. Paul, of Oklahoma City and Mrs. G.A. O'Leary of Pittsburg, Pa., and an uncle, Dr. M.F. Stanfield of Rison. For several months he had been in failing health and had gone to Hot Springs the day before his deathin the hopes of received benefit from treatment there. Having spent his entire life in this immediate section, he had a large number of friends who mourn his passing. MRS. J.C. LITTLE Mrs. J.C. Little, age 77, widow of the late Rev. T.B. Little, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs.J.W. Stewart, of Tulsa, Okla., November 22. In addition to Mrs. Stewart, she is survived by two sons, Evan and Oscar Parnell, of PineBluff and another daughter, Mrs. John Simpson, also of Pine Bluff. Mrs. Little made her home at Rison for many years but since the death of her husband four years ago, she has lived with her daughter. She had many friends here and was well known throughout the county. She was a member of the Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon of last week at the Little cemetery near Lehigh by Rev. John Harris of Thornton. CHARLES HAROLD VICKERS Funeral services for Charles Harold Vickers, who died at U.S. Veterans' Hospital in Outwood, KY., November 22, were conducted by Rev. George F. Moody at Moore's Church cemetery near here Thursday afternoon. Young Vickers, who was 25 years of age, enlisted in the U.S. Army at the outbreak of the World War and was in the A.E.F. in the heavy artillery division all during the confilct. During his service over seas he engaged in 15 battles without received a wound but was gassed. For several years he lived with his parents here and attended the local school and had many friends among Rison people. The remains were buried at Moore's church beside the grave of his mother who died two years ago. His death occured on the 50th birthday of his mother. He is survived by his father, George Vickers and two brothers, Morris, of Camden and Mont of Hutchinson, Kansas. Atty. George F. Brown, also an ex-service man, was flagbearer and delivered the military oration at the grave. December 22, 1926 MARY E. FLYNN Mrs. Mary E. Flynn, aged 61, died early Tuesday morning at her home in Whiteoak township, after an illness of about a month. Funeral services were conducted this morning at the Black cemetery in Grant County by the Rev. B.F. Musser. The deceased is survived by her husband, J.W. Flynn; four sons, Willie, Fletcher, and Walter Flynn of Rison and John Flynn of Pine Bluff; four daughters, Mrs. Ben Appling of Grapevine, Mrs. Sterling West and Mrs. Zelma Burk of Pine Bluff and Miss Dorothy Flynn of Rison; two sisters, Mrs. E. O'Neal and Mrs. John Manuel, both of Rison; four brothers, William, Robert and Wash Jones of Rison and John Jones of Texas. Mrs. Flynn was one of the best known women of her section and had a large number of friends in this and adjoining counties. For several years she made her home in Rison at which time her husband was in the mercatile business here. December 30, 1926 MRS. J.E. BACHELOR Mrs. Judith E. Bachelor, aged about 65, died at her home at New Edinburg Tuesday night. Her death was unexpected, although she had been in poor health for a number of years. Mrs. Bachelor was the widow of the late Dr. J.L. Bachelor and with her husband, made Rison her home for many years, moving to New Edinburg shortly after the death of her husband in 1913. She was a member of an old established and well known family of south Arkansas and has many friends throughout the state who will be saddened to learn of her death. She is survived by two brothers G.C. Attwood of New Edinburg and E.B. Attwood of Rison. CAMERON TRIPLETS DIE Triplets, two girls and a boy, wer born to Mr. and Mrs. Marcus Cameron, Tuesday, December 21. The infants have died, two dying Wednesday and the third Saturday. MISS HELEN MERLE McCABE Miss Helen Merle McCabe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. McCabe, died at the home of her parents here Monday morning, December 27, after an illness of several weeks. The deceased was a registered nurse, having graduated from a hospital in Little Rock several years ago and maintained headquarters in that city. She is survived by her parents, one sister, Mrs. A.W. Walker of Kingsland; and by one brother, Frank McCabe of Texas.
