Mrs. Sallie Britt, one of Columbia's worthy citizens, departed this life April 6th 1889, in her 50th year. She was born in Blount County, Alabama, Feb. 10th 1833, moved to Arkansas 1849, was married to Harrison Britt March 4th, 1850, joined the Baptist church at Macedonia 1869, and lived a devoted Christian up to the time of her death. Her remains were interred in the Old Macedonia graveyard in the solem and imposing order of the Eastern Star, and was followed by a large crowd of children, relatives and Masonic friends who mourn her loss. Elder W. H. Armstrong held a very appropriate funeral service before burial. She was the mother of nine children, seven of whom are living to mourn her loss. I would like to say dear children, while your father and mother now sleep in the cold embrace of death, side by side in the old, Macedonia cemetery, weep not for them as you stand around their grave; think who has died your beloved ones to save, and think the time is near when you will live in that promised land where parting is no more, where you can sing the beautiful words "All hail the power of Jesus name." The Community at large has lost a true sister in the church, a true sister in the lodge, a true mother to orphan children; in fact one of our shining lights is now sleeping in the clouds. What a thought! Let's resolve to live as near such a life as possible. When I think of her life it reminds me of the poet, who said: (this print is so small I can not make it out) Eli Fields Eli Fields is my grandfather and (Sallie) Sarah Blackburn Britt is my 2nd Great Grandmother - Jacqueline Britt Kirkpatrick ************************************************************************
