He has a large farm of 240 acres, on which there is one of the finest orchards in Cedar Falls Town-ship; he has over 400 trees of all varieties, of the following sorts of fruit: Apples, peaches, cherries, quinces, plums, besides a thrifty and well kept vineyard. Mr. Bird's success with fruit on the mountain has convinced him that it is one of the best locations for that branch of agriculture in Arkansas. Mr. Bird is a native of Walker County, Ga., where he was born October 7, 1852; is the son of Jacob and Nancy (Brickey) Bird. They were natives of Tennessee, father born in 1814 and mother in 1813; they were married in Tennessee and were the parents of thirteen children, seven sons and six daughters, of whom John, the subject of this sketch, was the tenth child in order of birth. Father and mother died in Walker County, Ga., the former in 1868, the latter in 1880; they were long time members of the Baptist church.
