Goodspeed Publishers, 1891. pg 64 A. D. Ellis, an enterprising citizen and planter of this county, was born in DeSoto County, Mississippi, February 4, 1848. His parents, Thomas R. and Martha A. (Wamock) Ellis, were both natives of Alabama. To their union were born nine children, only two of whom are now living. Mr. Thomas Ellis, was a pioneer from Mississippi to Arkansas in 1856. He located in Drew County and located on and improved a farm. He was one of the active citizens of that time, and held the office of Constable of his township for several years. He died in 1872. His wife, who is still living, and makes her home with her son in this county, is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The subject of this sketch was educated in the common schools in Drew County, and at his majority he began life for himself, by engaging as a clerk, an occupation which he followed for three years, and then began farming. In 1876 he married Josephine Welch, a native of Mississippi. To this union were born six children, who were named as follows: Ora, Emmett, deceased, Lula, deceased, Welch, William, deceased, and Thomas. Our subject is a planter by occupation; he owns 80 acres of good land, 40 of which is under a good state of cultivation. He has held membership in the Grange and was Constable for four years. Mrs. Ellis died in June, 1886, and on November 11, 1888, he married the second time to Lillie Ford, a native of Arkansas. Mr. Ellis is a member of the Presbyterian and his wife of the M. E. Church, South. Our subject is a man who takes an active part in sustaining public enterprises which promise to advance in any way the locality in which he lives.
