Greer is one of the substantial planters of Washington Township, and claims the State of Tennessee for his nativity, where he was born in Henry County, August 16, 1833, being one of sixteen children born to Isaac and Elizabeth (Ross) Greer; the parents were natives respectively of the States of South Carolina and Kentucky; of the large family born to this worthy couple, but two are now living, and both reside in this State. Isaac Greer was an early pioneer to Arkansas, coming here in 1838, and at once settled in Conway County, where he resided till his death in 1855. He was a leading citizen in his day and time, assisting in the improvements of the day. His wife, who died in 1851, was a worthy member of the M. E. Church. Their son, the subject of this sketch, was educated in the private schools of the county till the age of 19 years, when he embarked in life for himself as a farmer, with the very meagre start of one horse and a few head of stock. In 1852 he married Miss Martha Baker, who was also a native of Tennessee. To this union have been born nine children, named in order of birth, George W. (deceased), William, Mary J., Robert, Isaac M. (deceased), Nora, Ernest F. and Ada. Mr. Greer has added to his worldly possessions and now owns an excellent farm of 320 acres with 180 under a high state of cultivation, and has his farm well stocked and improved. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Springfield Lodge, No. 127. He has held the office of Justice of Washington Township, and is always associated with the interest of public improvement. Mrs. Greer is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
