His parents, William and Martha (Loftus) Hanserd, were natives of Georgia and Tennessee, respectively. They were the parents of eleven children, seven of whom are living at the present time. Mr. Hanserd, Sr., has always followed planting as an occupation, and moved from his old Georgia home to this State in 1873, when he settled in Conway County, where he has since resided, and identified himself with all matters of local benefit to his community. He and his estimable wife are associated religiously with the Advent Church. Our subject, Mr. W. W. Hanserd, was educated principally at private schools in Conway County, and at his majority embarked in life for himself, engaging in farming. On February 26th, 1886, he was joined in matrimony to Alice Taylor, a native of Tennessee. To this union have been born three children, one of whom they lost in infancy, and the other two are named Martha J. and Mandie E. From the exceedingly limited start that Mr. Hanserd had when he began life for himself, nothing scarcely but his own hands and a single horse, his success has enabled him to accumulate a fine farm property of 140 acres of good land, well stocked and equipped, and has also a half interest in a cotton gin and grist mill. He has served Washington Township as Constable, and the public school of his district as Director for several years. Mrs. Hanserd is a member of the Advent Church, and though the subject of this sketch is not a member himself, he is a liberal contributor to all things for the good of his community.
