Goodspeed Publishers, 1891. page 73 M. D. Houstion is a native of this county and of Gregory Township, in which he now resides. He is one of the progressive among the younger farmers of that locality, and is living on a good farm of 200 acres, with 120 under a thorough state of cultivation. The acquisition and further improvement of this property is mainly due to his own efforts, and from the fact that he is still young and vigorous, we may expect him to win much greater successes in the future. He was born January 11, 1858, and is the oldest son of John and Mary Houstion (see sketch of John Houstion). Our subject was educated in the common schools of the county, and at his majority began active life for himself as a farmer. On January 19, 1879, he married Mary J. Greer, also a native of Arkansas, and a member of one of the oldest families in this county. To this union have been born four children, named in order of birth, John W., Leila, Hugh L, and Charles L. Of secret societies, Mr. Houstion is a member of the Masonic Blue Lodge, and religiously the family are members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, of which Mr. Houstion is clerk. He is a wide-awake and enterprising citizen, always favoring the cause of education and religion, and advocating enterprises for public improvement.
