Goodspeed Publishers, 1891. page 80 Stephen I. Kennimer, the popular principal of the Cleveland High School, and one of the best teachers in Conway County, was born in Alabama, November 11, 1860. He is the son of John S. and Aphra (Vaughan) Kennimer, who were both natives of Alabama. They were the parents of eight children in all, five of whom are residing in this State. Mr. Kennimer, Sr., emigrated to Arkansas in 1874, and located in Conway County, where he resided till his death in 1885. He was, and his excellent wife is, an active member of the M. E. Church, South. Mrs. Kennimer is still living, and resides with her son, Stephen. Our subject was educated at the Russellville and Springfield Colleges, and after completing his studies there, he began life for himself by engaging in farming, which he followed till 1884. On November 21, 1879, he was united in marriage to Margaret A. McMahan, a native of this State, and daughter of John and Sarah McMahan. To this union have been born four children, John T., Sarah, Maud L., and Bertha A. In 1884 he began his career as a public educator, teaching his first school near Springfield. After four years, during which time he taught in various localities, and with a constantly growing reputation in his profession. He has taught at Centre. Ridge, where he won distinction for discipline and thoroughness, and his recent honors in the superintendency of the High School at Cleveland, has given him a distinctive position among the thorough teachers of the State. He has held the office of County Examiner for three and one-half years. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Cleveland Lodge, No. 473, in which he now holds the office of Senior Warden. Mrs. K. is a member of the Advent Church.
