Malone, one of Plummerville's most thrifty merchants, and enterprising and public-spirited citizens, is a native of Franklin County, Alabama, and was born in 1853, being the second surviving son of A. D. and Mary A. (Tapp) Malone (a sketch of whom appears in the biography of Elias Malone). The junior A. D. Malone spent his boyhood days working on the farm of his father, with the advantage of nothing but the country schools for an education, and at his majority began the life of a farmer for himself, but afterward attended school a short time, after which he was engaged in teaching school for about three years. He then engaged in the grocery trade at Plummerville for about one year, or till 1879, when he opened up a general store, which business he has followed ever since with excellent success. He carries a good stock of everything needed by the farming community, and is doing an annual business of $20,000. He is also the owner of about 800 acres of land, and real estate in town, all of which is his own accumulation. In January of 1883, Mr. Malone wedded Miss Rosa Belle Dacus, a native of Arkansas, and a daughter of Dr. Hiram Dacus, now a prominent physician of Yell County, formerly of Plummerville, where Mrs. Dacus died about 1888. Mr. Malone has held the offices of Treasurer and Secretary in Howard Lodge of Masonry, No. 253. Mrs. Malone is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
