Marshall, member of the business firm of Hatcher & Marshall, blacksmiths and woodworkmen at Ada, in Higgins Township, was born in Georgia, February 18, 1847; he is a son of John and Marilsa A. (White) Marshall; they were natives of Georgia, where father was born November 28, 1815, and mother November 14, 1818. Father was reared on the farm and followed that occupation all his life; he served for a time in the latter part of the late war. These people were married in Georgia, February 25, 1836, and were the parents of twelve children, two sons and ten daughters; five children are now living, John W., the subject of this sketch, Catherine E., widow of Joseph Jewell, Sarah A., wife of John Wigginton, Margaret E., widow of C. C. Haggler, Georgia A., wife of John Hellumes, Father died in 1887, and mother died April 21, 1887; she was a member of the Baptist Church. The subject of this sketch was married on September 20, 1868, to Miss Elizabeth Houston, daughter of Henderson and Louisa Houston. These people were natives of Tennessee, born in 1818 and 1825, respectively; they were married in that State in 1841, and were the parents of six children. Father and mother still living, they reside in Mississippi. To the union of our subject and wife have been born ten children, one son and nine daughters, four only of whom are living now, named Martha M., Fannie R., Bettie L. and Sarah C. Mr. Marshall is a member of the Primitive Baptist Church, and politically he affiliates with the Democratic party.
