Beginning business with a very limited capital and in a small way, he has built up his trade with the growth of the town, and now his store in the Crozier Block is one of the best grocery stands in Morrilton. He carries a full stock of staple and fancy groceries; his store has an appearance of neatness and is filled up with a taste which demonstrates that he gives his full attention to his business in its minutest details. Such qualities are always calculated to win success, and we may expect to see a much greater expansion of Mr. Noland's business in the future. He was born in Mississippi February 17th, 1852, and was one of eleven children born to the union of Thomas J. and Parmelia M. (Redling) Noland; the parents were natives of Tennessee and Georgia, respectively; of these eleven children, ten are living and all reside in Conway County. Mr. Thomas Noland was a farmer by occupation, and came to Arkansas in 1858, and made this county his home till death, which occurred September 18, 1887. His wife is still living and resides on the old home place. They hold membership in the Baptist Church. Our subject received his early education in this county, at private schools, and at the age of 22 years branched out in life for himself, engaging in farming with the slender equipments of a single horse. In 1877 he married Miss Beaty, a native of this State. The fruits of this union have been five children, named Leona, Lurbell,Thomas L. (deceased), George O. and Lydia. The family worship at the Missionary Baptist Church.
