Goodspeed Publishers, 1891. page 119 Dr. J. F. M. Tate, of Cleveland, and one of the leading physicians of Conway County, was born in Illinois on the 13th of March, 1849. His parents, G. B. and Hester J. (Martin) Tate, were natives of Tennessee. From Illinois they immigrated to Pope County, Arkansas, in 1881, and immediately engaged in the occupation of farming, and has since made that location his home. He and his estimable wife are both members of the M. E. Church, South. Dr. Tate received his literary education at the common schools of Illinois, and studied medicine at the State University and at the Medical College. After graduation he went home and began his practice there. In 1873 he came to Arkansas and Located in Pope County, and at once resumed, in the new field, the practice of his profession. In 1876 he was united in marriage to Miss Lavinia C. Turnbow, a native of this State. To this union have been born seven children: Samuel P., Henry S., Alva B., Norah L. (deceased), Parvian (who had a twin which died in infancy), Winsey P. Dr. Tate is a member of the Odd Fellows, socially, and Mrs. Tate is a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Dr. Tate is genial-and courteous, is winning many friends, and has built up an encouraging practice.
