Goodspeed Publishers, 1891. page 123 Ira L. Walsh, an enterprising merchant of Solgohachia, was born in Harden County, Tennessee, August 26, 1861. His parents, John L. and Martha (Garland) Walsh, were also natives of that State, where they were married and to whom were born ten children, seven of whom are living and all reside in this State. Father emigrated from Tennessee to Arkansas in 1867 and located in White County, where he followed agricultural pursuits till his death, March 25, 1885. For six years. Mr. W. held the office of Justice, and he was an active member of the Masonic fraternity. He enlisted in the Confederate army in 1861 and all his life was an upright and estimable citizen. Mrs. W. is still living and makes her home with her children in White County. Ira, the subject of this sketch, was educated in the common schools of White County, and at the age of 20 began life for himself by engaging as a Clerk; he followed that pursuit till 1885, when, having become thoroughly proficient in the business, he began merchandising for himself. Mr. W. is still a young man, but he has both business tact and energy, two qualities that will make his future success certain. On January 3, 1886, he was united in marriage to Miss Josie Coleman, a native of Mississippi, and to this union has been born one child, Floy. Mr. and Mrs. W. are both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, in which, as in the Sabbath School, of which Mr. W. is superintendent, they are active workers and supporters.
