This worthy couple were natives respectively of Virginia and Mississippi and were the parents of 9 children, only two of whom are living at this time, James G. and William B. Mr. Yeates, Sr., continued to make his home in that area of Conway, now Faulkner County, till 1870, when he removed to a location in the present county limits, where he resided till his death in 1882. He followed the occupation of a farmer. Was, with his estimable wife, a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in which he held the office of elder, and was always an earnest advocate and supporter of all measures that promised to promote the good of his section. He was one of the leading men in the organization of churches, schools, etc. The subject of this sketch, Mr. William B. Yeates, was born in Conway County in 1841, and received such school advantages as this county, in those early days, afforded, and in 1862 enlisted in a company and entered the Confederate army. In a few months he was disabled and returned home. The following year, 1863, he enlisted in the Federal army under Gen. Steele. After the close of the war he at once engaged in farming, and shortly, in 1865, married Miss Adaline Baker, a native of Mississippi. To this union have been born three children: William A. (deceased), Georgie M., and Wesley W. Mr. Yeates still follows the occupation of a planter, in which he has been successful, and owns a good farm of 280 acres, 160 of which is under a good state of cultivation, in Washington Township. Mr. and Mrs. Yeates are both active members of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, in which he holds the office of deacon. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity, Lewisburg Lodge No. 105, and may always be found advocating any measure which promises to advance the welfare of Conway County, as well as a liberal contributor to the church and schools.
