Crawford County, AR-Kenney Cemetery Winfred Valley, AR Submitted by: Candy Hickman-Crhickman74@aol.com ******************************************************************************* My husband and I have been researching his side of the family, and his great grandfather was buried in Kenney Cemtery in Crawford County, AR, just across the Washington County line. The instructions we were able to obtain was that this cemetery was at the head of the Frog Bayou Creek. After a trial and error we finally located it, we back tracked and did a mileage from Fayetteville plus we have written up a description on directions to get the Cemetery. We hope this information may be of some help to others reseaching the Kenney Cemetery. Candy Hickman KENNY CEMETERY At the head of Frog Bayou Creek WINFRED VALLEY, CRAWFORD COUNTY, AR Direction are starting from HWY 71.B & 62 stop light in Fayetteville, Washington County, AR. Nearest businesses are O'Reilly's, Farm Service Co-op, and Central EMS. Take Hwy. 71B south toward Mountainburg, you will travel about 25.1 miles to the Winfred Valley County Road. Note: At the top of Mt. Gaylor is the "Our Lady of the Ozark Shrine" church, you are approximately 1.75 miles from the Winfred Valley County turn. The dirt road turns off to the left (east) there is a red & white street sign that designees the Winfred Valley Co. Road. Next to the sign is another sign that reads "White Rock Management". The dirt road will wind around and goes down hill; it is a pretty good dirt road. After approximately 2.1 miles you will come to a one-lane bridge and then the second one-lane bridge is .5 past it. After crossing the 2nd bridge there is a "T" in the road, you need to take the Winfred Valley Rd toward Sunset. (A total of 2.3 miles from the 71 Highway.) NOTE: At the intersection of the "T" you will see a road mark ass the "Jones Ford Rd.", just past that will be a brown sign that clearly marks the roads as: Sunset 8 mi. (turns to the left, on Winfred Valley Road) Bidville 7 mi. (turns to the right) White Rock 17 mi (turns to the right) Proceed toward Sunset for the next 1.95 miles. You will go past the Winfred Valley Tabernacle Church on the right hand side of the road. This is all up hill and the road is a single travel dirt road with turnouts. At the top of the hill after the 1.95 miles is a road that turns to the right. After you make the turn you will see a small red steel metal stake on the right hand side of the road with the markings "1701B." The 1701B will top over a noe then will start winding you down hill. This dirt road is also a single travel dirt road with small turnouts. At this point you are 1.65 miles from the cemetery. The road winds around and comes to a small fork in the road. Note: The main part of the road bends back to the right, which will take you past an open field and down to a creek. You will need to take the small road that heads off straight. After the small fork in the road you will go approximately .15 tenths and there will be a creek branch bed you will cross, after crossing you will travel another few feet and will come upon the second creek branch bed to cross. The total mileage from the small fork in the road to the cemetery is .7 tenths. The cemetery is on the right just pass the second crossing of the creek. Note: we would not recommend a vehicle that rides low or close to the ground for this trip. Information found at the Fayetteville Library: “Kenny Cemetery is named after Frank Kenney who owned the land and built a house near here in 1889. Kenney, School District NO. 37, located within two miles of the Washington County line was also named for Frank Kenney. The Cemetery can only be reached in driest months of summer because Frog Bayou creek must be forded.” The following is the graves we found in Kenney Cemetery as of 12 May 2001: The Chearys no other name or dates given Baby Seabourn born 1916 died 1916 Renee Seabourn died 1921 11 yrs. 1 mo. 11 days Seabourn Mable Wells Roy Born 9-27-1909 Born 9-13-1906 Died 2-8-1929 Died 8-19-1934 Infant daughter of Meck Kelly and Martha Cartwright Kelly Jan 1906 Infant daughter of S.
