GAYLER CEMETERY Mt. Gayler Cemetery is located .1 (1/10> mile west of Hwy 71 between Mountainburg and Winslow, on top of Mt. Gayler. Traveling north on Hwy 71, go .1 (1/10) mile past the "lookout tower" on Mt. Gayler, located by the cafe and gift shops. Turn left on an unpaved dirt driveway which runs in front of a rural fire station located ina garage-like structure. Approximately fifty yards past the fire station, you will see a Mt. Gayler Cemetery sign over the driveway. From the highway, the cemetery is about 1/10 of a mile. The cemetery has 41 marked graves with names, and slightly more than 40 graves marked with field stones, concrete markers, and granite stones without inscriptions. Undoubtedly, a number of unmarked graves also exist in the cemetery. The cemetery is not well maintained. This survey was done by Tom Ashworth on February 7, 2001. The cemetery, about one acre in size, was donated as a public cemetery by R.D. Gayler. See (12) below. (1) Wm.
