All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** State of Arkansas County of Crawford pg 52,53 & 54 , 1881- Will Book A Know all men by these presents that,I George Washington Scantlin of Crawford County,state of Arkansas,being of sound and disposing mind and memory___ __ __the uncertainty of human life,and being ___ of settling my worldly affairs,and ___ __ the estate with which it hath pleasure give to bless me shall be disposed of after my decease,while I have strength and capacity to do so,do make and publish this my last will and testement,hereby revoking and making null and void any other wills and testements by hereafter made. First, My will is then all of my just debts and formed expenses shall be by my executors paid out of my estate as soon after my decease as shall by them be found __ on which they may be due. Second, I give to my beloved wife , Nancy Scantlin all my present property ,horses,cattle,hogs,all my household furniture and in fact all of my present property the __ thereof.as the profits arrising there from to be recieved by her, for and during her natural life and after her decease,I give and bequeath this same to my five children,herein named to wit: James Albert Scantlin,Bejamin Franklin Scantlin,Robert Lee Scantlin, Thomas John Scantlin and Mary Elizabeth Scantlin to be divided amongst them equally. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife Namcy Scantlin the user improvements and income of all my real estate wherever situated including all my lands situated in Crawford County in the state of Arkansas,to have and to hold the same to her for and __ her natural life. ( this line at bottom of page cut of in coping---can not read it..) top of page 53 Laura Janes(?Jones(?))one dollar,to my son George Washington Scantlin,one dollar,to my son John Lafayette Scantlin,one dollar,and to my daughter,Margaret Annie Stalling,one dollar. The said sum of one dollar to be paid to them after the decease of my beloved wife Nancy Scantlin and not before. I give and bequeath unto my four sons to wit: James Albert Scantlin,Benjamin Franklin Scantlin,Robert Lee Scantlin and Thomas John Scantlin,one hundred and sixty acres of land to be that portion of my land which includes the original homestead and improvements therein situated and belonging to have and to hold the same to them,my four sons herein named,James Albert ,Benjamin Franklin ,Robert Lee ,Thomas John, and their heirs after them__ after the decease of my said wife to them and their heirs forever. I give and bequeath unto my sons,James Albert Scantlin,Benjamin Franklin Scantlin,Robert Lee Scantlin,and Thomas John Scantlin and my daughter Mary Elizabeth Scantlin and as their heirs after them,all the remainder of my real estate to wit:two hundred and eighty acres of land situated in Crawford County,state of Arkansas as my other I may be ____ of in said County and shall in any other _. To have and to hold the same to them and their heirs after them __ acres after the decease of my said wife to them and to their heirs after them,to their use and benefit forever. And the said lands to be equally divided amongst them according to its __ at that time,each an equal share and to be divided by their _ __ by them for that purpose. George Washington Scantlin The foregoing will and testament was declared by George Washington Scantlin in our presence to be his last will and testament who in his presence and in the presence of each other and at his request have subscribed our names as witnesses this eight day of October A.D. 1881 Amanda S.Janes(?) Jones(?) were present at the execution of the last will and testament of George Washington Scantlin and that it was executed at the time therein stated ,that it was subscribed by the said George Washington Scantlin in the presence of myself and Amanda S. Jones(?) who were subscribing witnesses thereto who in the presence of each other and in the presence and request of the said George Washington Scantlin subscribed our names as attending witnesses thereto, he the said George Washington Scantlin declaring that said insturment of writing was his last will and testament and at the time of the execution of the said insturment of writing that the said George Washington Scantlin was of sound and disposing mind and memory,that I saw Amanda S. Jones (?) subscribe said insturment of writing as attesting witness and know the signature to be genuine and that I called her attention when the said George Washington Scantlin signed said insturment and know that she saw him sign same and that the said Amanda S.
