Born in Montrose, he was the son of James Robinson and Bessie Stinson Edwards. He attended Louisiana Tech University and graduated from Hendrix College. He served in the United States Navy during World War II and also served in Korean Conflict. He was founder of the White River Insurance Agency and served as president until his retirement. He was the past president of the Professional Insurance Agents of Arkansas and served on the executive committee of the Independent Insurance Agents Association. He was past president of the Batesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Batesville Kiwanis Club, Batesville Country Club and served on the Batesville Utilities Commission. He was elected secretary-treasurer of the Batesville Outing Club in 1965 and served for 30 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.Survivors include his wife, Beverly Edwards and a son, John Preston Edwards of Batesville. He was proceeded in death by nine sisters and three brothers. Graveside services and burial will be 11 am Tuesday in Oaklawn Cemetery with the Rev. Leila Power officiating. Arrangements are by Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville. Pallbearers will be Jack Stevenson, Dick Bernard, Dan Fagan, Tom Allen, Clark Chandler and Chip Rayford.
