All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ******************************************************************************** THE LOG CABIN DEMOCRAT Thursday, Oct 20, 1960 Conway, Arkansas James Robertson Edwards, 83, a resident of Conway since 1925, died at Rodgers Hospital in Searcy, Saturday night, Oct 15, 1960. Mr.. Edwards, ill for a year, was removed to the hospital Friday from his home, 1905 Scott Street, here.He was a retired laundry owner, church and civic leader. He purchased the Model Laundry the year he moved to Conway and operated the business for more than 20 years. Mr.. Edwards formerly served a chairman of the Conway Board of Education. He also was a deacon of the First Baptist Church here. In 1946 he became a charter director of the First State Bank. Born in Monticello Aug 18, 1877, he was a son of the late John Williams and Sallie Butler Edwards. He moved to Conway from Montrose. He was married Aug 16, 1896 to the former Bessie Stinson. Mrs.. Edward's death occurred in 1959. Mr.. Edwards is survived by four sons, John W. and James R. of Batesville; Dr. Hugh Edwards of Searcy and Charles B. Edwards of Conway; five daughters, Mrs.. Mary Stewart of Conway, Mrs.. J.P. Gammel of Memphis, Tenn, Mrs.. Alma Roth of Ruston, La., Mrs.. A. J. Meadors of Morrilton and Mrs.. Alton Foster of Garden City, Kan.; six brothers, Victor and Charles Edwards of Montrose, Z. T. Edwards of Hot Springs,Lonnie Edwards of Amarillo, Tex., Walter Edwards of Mist and John Clifton Edwards of Washington, D.C.; three sisters, Mrs.. Bryan Lawrence of Montrose, Mrs.. Mitchell of California and Mrs.. John C. Carpenter of Crossett, 22 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral was at McNutt's Chapel this afternoon by the Rev. Joel Cooper and burial was at Oak Grove Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Allan and John Meadors, F.D. Warren, homes G. Turbyfill, Frank and Robert Edwards, J.P.Gammel and Robert Howard, Honorary pallbearers were member of the Meadors Bible Class and deacons of the First Baptist Chruch.
