Chicago: The Goodspeed Publishing Co., 1889. John C. Patrick was born in Floyd County, Ky., April 13, 1838, and is a son of Jerrie and Sarah (Saliers) Patrick, natives of Kentucky. In 1852 the family came to Arkansas, and located in Madison County, where the father engaged in farming and the children were reared. During the latter part of the war Mr. Patrick left home, and in the spring of 1863 he died in Fayetteville. The mother's death occurred in Kentucky in 1850. John C. grew to manhood in Madison County, and in 1862 enlisted in Col. Brooks' regiment, from Franklin County. He was in the battle of Helena, and served until nearly the close of the war. He then returned to Franklin County, where, July 20, 1856, he had married Sarah Arrington, a native of Washington County, Ark., and daughter of Thelbert Arrington, of Illinois, now deceased. Soon after the war he settled upon his present place, which was then uncultivated. He now owns 240 acres, sixty of which he farms and has cleared. This tract is improved, with good buildings and orchards, and Mr. Patrick also owns another tract of 180 acres, 120 of which he cultivates. This consists of Mulberry bottom land, and is located one and one-half miles from the home place. Mr. and Mrs. Patrick are the parents of seven children: Elizabeth (wife of George W. Wells), John W. (married Martha Woods, daughter of John Woods), Samuel A., James H., Mary L., Robert L. and George W. Mr. Patrick is a Master Mason, and belongs to the I. O. O. F. and K. of H.
