Courtney, 77, April 1, died Tuesday morning May 2, at 3 o’clock, at his home on the south side, after an illness of two weeks. He was a civil war veteran, sergeant in Co., C. 16th Reg. Ky. Vol. Inf. and was loved by all who knew. He was born in Kentucky; but had made Fulton county his home for a number of years. He has six children somewhere in Cincinnati, Ohio until recently he owned a homestead on Big creek, west of S.C. Waits, but this he traded to Josh Sears for lot 6 in block 9, Mammoth Spring which is occupied by two box buildings. He was buried Wednesday afternoon in Riverside cemetary [sic] with military honors participated in by his comrades of the G.A.R. and world war veterans in uniform, following a Christian service from the Church of Christ by Eld. H.N. McKee, pastor. He was married April 2, just 30 days before his death, to Mrs. Bessie Clark, who nursed him with tender care day and night while he was sick.
