Tuesday, December 6, 1966 Milford Moore Dies; Won DSC During WWII (picture) Milford Levoice Moore, 43, a holder of the Distinguished Service Cross, died Monday in a Little Rock hospital. He was a farmer and life resident of Royal. Moore received the Distinguished Service Cross, one of the nation's highest military honors, for "extraordinary heroism in action" Feb. 11, 1945 at Oberhoffen, France. Moore, then a sergeant, was credited with killing an enemy machine gun crew by firing rifle grenades at the emplacement from an "exposed position." He also killed a sniper who opened fire on him and later hurled a hand grenade and fired rifle grenades into a barn. Moore then went in the barn while firing his rifle, killed three more of the enemy and captured 16. Moore was also a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Primitive Baptist Church and Thad H. Caraway Post No. 2278, Veterans of Foreign Wars. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Shirley Lorr Moore, Royal; three sons, Michael A. Moore, Don A. Moore and Llon E. Moore, all of Royal; two daughters, Mrs. Linda Harvey, Hot Springs and Miss Sandra Moore, Royal; a sister, Mrs. Cortez Ricker, Oklahoma City.
