All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.shtml *********************************************************** Ruby Inez McCartney Riggan, age 89, of Leola, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2004 following a brief illness. She was born September 27, 1915, in Washburn Valley, Arkansas. She was predeceased by her husband, James Arlin Riggan, her parents, Bert and Minnie McCartney, a grandson Gregory Scott McCurdy, and a sister, Reata Scharbor. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Riggan McCurdy ( Gary) of Norman, Oklahoma and her son, Tommy Riggan ( Pat) of Leola, and grandchildren; Carrie Sherbert, Amber Tackett, April Davis, and Kyle Riggan and two brothers, John and Alton McCartney and a sister, Lois Lewis all of Washburn Valley. She also had 5 great grandchildren. "Miss" Ruby was a graduate of Greenwood High School. She earned her BA from Hendrix College and her MA from Henderson State. She taught school for 36 years in the Leola School District. She was a faithful member and organist/pianist for the Leola United Methodist Church since 1936. Ruby was also an active member /office holder of the Grant County Retired Teacher's Association, AEA/NEA and AARP. She was a regular attendee of the Sheridan Senior Citizens Center and a Leola news correspondent for The Sheridan Headlight for many years. She leaves behind a host of friends including a longtime co-worker, friend, "Miss" Sudie Lamb and Mayetta and Dan Holland. Funeral Services will be Saturday, October 16, 2004 at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Sheridan with Bro. Terry Mann officiating. Burial will follow at Leola Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers are: Dan Holland, John Phillips, Brent Williams, Richard Carpenter, J.J. Harrington, Danny Sherbert and George Tackett. The family requests memorials be made to Leola United Methodist Church, the Leola Cemetery Association or the American Heart Association.
