The land on which the cemetery resides was apparently originally owned by the Mouser family at the time of the first burials. In 1900 the family sold 49 acres of land which included the plot on which the cemetery is located. In 1904 Hall family heirs purchased the land (from L. Haltom). It first appears listed as a cemetery on the Hempstead Co. tax records in 1905. It is described as "180 ft East and West by 242 ft North and South". 2. James and John Galloway came to Hempstead Co. about 1850 from TN along with their father William Galloway (1798 VA Ð 1865 AR), and his family. All the family settled near Hope and are shown in Hempstead Co. land transactions of the era.William, his wife Sophia, and two of his other sons, Abraham and J.F., are buried at Shover Springs. William's father, Marshall Galloway (1760 VA Ð 1827 TN) was a Revolutionary War veteran and drew a pension for his service. 3. Madison D. Hall was born in VA in 1815. He was farmer and a blacksmith. His family is listed in the 1880 Hempstead Co. census. 4. After the death of his wife, Adeline A. Clayton, S. W. (Samuel Wesley) Crosnoe (1822 TN Ð 1891 AR), a carpenter, appears to have married again as he is listed in the 1880 Hempstead Co. census with his wife Margaret. S.W. Crosnoe and his daughter, Ada Pauline (1856-1881, wife of George Crum) are reportedly buried at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hope, AR and some sources state that Adeline is also buried at Rose Hill. 5. Charlie Crosnoe is the son of John Malachi Crosnoe (1848 Ð 1918) and his wife, Amanda Jane Jones. ________________________________________________________________ The above information was taken from the "Hempstead Co. AR Cemeteries, Bk II", (prepared by the AR Genealogical Society and found in the Hope, AR public library) and the genealogy notes of Sam Galloway Sproles who has researched the Galloway and Mouser families and visited the cemetery.
