She was the daughter of the late William Irvin Purkins and Nannie Delony Purkins, pioneer settlers of Hope. She was born Oct. 15, 1889 in Pioneer Washington and moved with her family to Hope at the age of one. She was an honor graduate of Hope High School and attended the old Galloway College at Searcy. For a number of year she worked for Plunkett-Jarrell Wholesale Grocery Company, and for more than 33 years was secretary to the ministers of the First Methodist Church of Hope. She served as superintendent of the church's primary department for more than 50 years. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Glen L. Williams Sr. of Hope, Mrs. Edward Woodford of Little Rock; one nephew; six neices; 17 great-neices and nephews; and five great-great nephews. She was the sister of the late Miss Marie Purkins and the late Judge Duval Purkins of Lake Village. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Oakcrest Chapel with the Rev. Howard Williams officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetary under the direction of Oakcrest Chapel Funeral Home.
