    MRS. MARY G. WHITTEN
    Mrs. Mary Gaelenia Whitten, age 83, died Tuesday in a local
hospital.  She was a member of the Garrett Memorial Baptist Church and a
lifelong resident of Nevada and Hempstead Counties.
    Survivors are her husband, John A. Whitten of Hope; one son, Newburn
Whitten of Texarkana; one daughter, Mrs. Hazel Scheer of St. Louis, Mo.;
13 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren;
two sisters, Mrs. Dora Norton of New Boston, Tex., and Mrs. Della Tanner
of San Antonio, Tex.; several nieces and nephews.
    Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Garrett Memorial
Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Sayers officiating and the Rev. Ernest
Whitten assisting.  Interment will be in Anderson cemetery with Oakcrest
Funeral Home in charge.
