Born Nov. 26, 1926, 1926, to the late James Wahington Davis and Ninnie Scott Davis, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lonnie, Vernon, Virgil and Grady Davis, and one sister, Birtha Cobb. Hooper was a wife, homemaker and active church and community worker. She became a member of Keith Memorial United Methodist Church in 1967, where she served in various positions of leadership and responsibility. She was a member of the Priscilla Sunday School Class, treaurer of United Methodist Women, chairperson of the church's committee on Social Concerns, a member of the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and a member of the Quilter's Club at Keith. She served her community well, visiting nursing homes, the sick and shut-ins. Her service was laced with dedication, kindness and love. Whe will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband, M.L. "Pete" Hooper; two sons, Morris and Randy Hooper, both of Malvern; two daughters, Alta Day of Redfield, and Pat Mathis of Little Rock; two sisters, Bonnie Adair of California, and Hazel Hughes of Judsonia; one brother, Joe Davis of Mississippi; seven grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Friday, June 28, at the Atkinson Funeral Home Capel at 10 a.m. with Rev. David Smith officiating. Nephews will serve as pallbearers and the Methodist Men's Bible Class as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be at the Rockport Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rev. Harold Smith and his great grandmother, Virginia Walker. Survivors include his parents, Jenny and Nathan Smith; jrandparents, Linda Smith of Glendwood and Jerry and Berverly Garrett of Malvern. THE DAILY RECORD Malvern, Hot Springs County, Arkansas July 3, 1996 ZANE ROWE MAY Zane Rowe May was born in Lewisville, Ark., on Aug. 3, 1970, and died June 29, 1996. He was very much loved by his family: mother, Bobbie Beatty; brother and sister, Dave and Morgan Beatty of lewisville; father and step-mother Stan and Donna May; brother and sis, Micah and Mandy May; and also his grandparens, Ed and Sybil Rowe of Stamps, Lewis and Juanita May of Hot Springs, Jimmy and Wanda Ottinger of Malvern, and John and Helen Beatty of Lewisville. Zane graduated from Lewisville High School in 1988. He attended ad played baseball at Henderson State University in Arkadelphia before enlisting in the Air Force in March of 1993. He graduated as an Honor Graduate from the School of Aerospace Medicine's Aerospace Medical Specialist Course at Brooks Air Force Base, Texas, in June 1993. His awards in the Air Forsce include Air Force Achievement Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and the AirForce Training Ribbon. During his time served in the Air Force, Zane completed numerous deployments in Africa, Germany, Puerto Rico and his last in Saudia Arabia. A memorial service will be held at Malvern First Assembly of God Church, 1421 s. Main., on Friday, July 5, at 10 a.m. Burial will be at a later service in Stamps. Friends have established a memorial fund at the Malvern National Bank that is directed by financial advisor Rex Holbrook from Arkadelphia. Born April 1, 1917, in Lonsdale to James Robert and Laura Frances Riggs Sloan, he was retired from the Upholstery business and a member of the North Main Church of Christ. He was born Aug. 23, 1910, at Traskwood to the late Flave ad Ada Shepard Ritchey. He was a 45 year employee of the Bank of Malvern where he served as and officer and director. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Century Bible Class, and a former member of the Kiwanis Club. He was preceded in death by a wife Dorothy, and his sisters, Gertie Dawson, and Vada Gary. Survivors include his wife Zella Cooper Richey of Malvern; two brothers, Lester Ritchey of Monticello, and Carmel Ritchey of Benton; and several nieces and nephews. He was retired from the Arkansas State Highway Department, member of the American Legion, a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War, and a member of Saginaw Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father. Born Feb. 7, 1952, to Jackie and Jane Heiss Holt in Pine Bluff, he was employed for Wheeling Machine Products Manufacturing as a Controller, a Missionary Baptist and was active in community affairs. Survivors include his wife Ginger (Hicks) Holt of Malvern; three daughters, Emily Lauren Holt, Holly Renee Holt and Juliana Holt, all of Malvern; his mother Jane Holt of Sheridan; two sisters, Lee Ann Holt and Nedra Katherine Holt, both of Little Rock. Born Jug. 13, 1907, in Pottsville to the late James and Mary Jane Bowman Robertson, she was a homemaker and was married to W.C. Capps. She was a member of the Meadowview Missionary Baptist Church. FELIX R. MATLOCK SR. Felix R. Matlock Sr. of Detroit, formerly of Malvern, died June 6, 1996, in Detroit where he lived for more than 50 years. He served as secretary to the late Congressman Diggs. Survivors include one son, Felix Matlock Jr. of Aurora, Ill.; two sisters, Annie Jones of Little Rock and Odie Williams of Malvern; and three grandchildren. She was born Oct. 27, 1901, in Arkadelphia to the late Henry and Elizabeth Buck Harrington. She was married to the late Will H. Ellis, was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. KACIE DAVIS SR. Kacie Davis, Sr., 76, died June 24, 1996, at his home in Malvern. Davis was a member of Greater New Hope Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, choir member and past president of the Brotherhood. He was a World War II Veteran and a retired bus driver for Malvern Public Schools. JUANITA MYERS GIVENS Juanita Myers Givens, 68, of Benton died July 1 1996. Born June 27, 1928, in Willow, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Mary Dalton Myers and was a homemaker and member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Benton. Survivors include four daughters, Patricia A. Capaldi of Canton, Ohio, Diana J. Hildebrand and Bernice C. Hammer, both of San Diego, Calif., Wanda L. Jones of Columbus, Ohio; eight sisters, Ethel Lawrence of Malvern, Ernestine Walker of Quitman, Texas, Jamie Howell of Pilot Point,Texas, Winnie Markam of Ervin, Texas, Beva Ensey, Gussie Johnson, Juanitha Perkins, and Joyce Morgan, all of Benton; three brothers, Roscoe Myers of Leola, Doyle Myers of Malvern, Paul Myers of Sulpher Springs, Texas; and six grandchildren. The family will be at Roller-Ballard Funeral Home in Benton from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday. WILLIE EUNICE BARKER Willie Eunice Barker, 63, of Hot Springs died June 30, 1996, at Nationa Park Medical Center. She was a native of Malvern but spent most of her adult life in St. Louis, Mo. After moving to Hot Springs, she was a certified nursing assistant at Garland County Social Services. Survivors include two brothers, Freeman Barker of Malvern and Leandrew Barker of Camden. Services will be Wednesday, July 3 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Brandon's Mortuary with Rev. J. N. McCollum officiation. Burial will be in Perla Cemetery, with Brandon's Mortuary in charge of arrangements. JAMES JOSEPH TILLEY James Joseph Tilly, 66, of Harrison died June 30, 1996 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville. Born April 5, 1930, in Pindall, he was the son of Roy and Janie Cash Tilly. Following his mother's re-marriage, he was raised by the late Carl Barnett. He graduated from Harrison High School and attended Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway. He was a graduate of the Banking School of the South at LSU and the Installment Banking School in Chicago. He was employed by the Security Bank in Harrison for 17 years where he was the vice president in charge of installment loans. He later became president and CEO of Citizens Bank in Marshall and Leslie State Bank in Leslie. In 1981 he purchased the Marshall Mountain Wave newspapter and served as publisher until the time of his death. He helped establish Coffman Funeral Homes in Harrison and Jasper after 25 years of involvement with Coffman Funeral Homes in Marshall. He served nine years on the Boone County Hospital board of governors and was chairman of the hospital board in 1972 and 1973. He was a member of the Harrison board of education from 1963-1976, serving as president in 1966 and 1978. He was active in numerous Arkansas banking committees. He was sports oriented, having played American Legion baseball and refereed many high school football and basketball games throughout the area. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a Mason, ALions Clube member and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cromwell Tilley; four sons, Bill cromwell of Fort Smith, Jim Tilley Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Ab Tilley of Malvern, Albert Tilley of Harrison; three daughters, Jill Rusher of Fayetteville, Jan Sharp of Maumelle, Mary Ann Lahodny of Little Rock; a brother, Jerald Barnett of Aspen, Colo.; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at First Presbyterian Church in Harrison with Rev. William B. Swan officiating.
