All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** THE MALVERN DAILY RECORD Malvern, Hot Springs County, Arkasas July 2, 1996 JAMES JOSEPH TILLEY James Joseph Tilly, 66, of Harrison died June 30, 1996 at Washington Regional Hospital in Fayetteville. Born April 5, 1930, in Pindall, he was the son of Roy and Janie Cash Tilly. Following his mother's re-marriage, he was raised by the late Carl Barnett. He graduated from Harrison High School and attended Arkansas State Teacher's College in Conway. He was a graduate of the Banking School of the South at LSU and the Installment Banking School in Chicago. He was employed by the Security Bank in Harrison for 17 years where he was the vice president in charge of installment loans. He later became president and CEO of Citizens Bank in Marshall and Leslie State Bank in Leslie. In 1981 he purchased the Marshall Mountain Wave newspapter and served as publisher until the time of his death. He helped establish Coffman Funeral Homes in Harrison and Jasper after 25 years of involvement with Coffman Funeral Homes in Marshall. He served nine years on the Boone County Hospital board of governors and was chairman of the hospital board in 1972 and 1973. He was a member of the Harrison board of education from 1963-1976, serving as president in 1966 and 1978. He was active in numerous Arkansas banking committees. He was sports oriented, having played American Legion baseball and refereed many high school football and basketball games throughout the area. He was a veteran of the Korean War, a Mason, ALions Clube member and a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cromwell Tilley; four sons, Bill cromwell of Fort Smith, Jim Tilley Jr. of Dallas, Texas, Dr. Ab Tilley of Malvern, Albert Tilley of Harrison; three daughters, Jill Rusher of Fayetteville, Jan Sharp of Maumelle, Mary Ann Lahodny of Little Rock; a brother, Jerald Barnett of Aspen, Colo.; and 12 grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3 at First Presbyterian Church in Harrison with Rev. William B. Swan officiating. Burial will be in Maplewwod Cemetery under direction of Coffman Funeral Home of Harrison. Pallbearers will be Dr. Albert Hammon, J.E. Dunlap Jr., Tommy Martin, Richard Hudson, Bill O. Watts, Bob Reynolds, Wallace Nickels and Phil Travis. Honorary pallbearers are Roy Baker Jr., Jitter Horton, Doug Hudson, Bill BcBride, Tom Milburn, Ken Reeves, Danny Horton, Ronnie Housley, staff of Coffman Funeral Home, staff of Marshall Mountain Wave and members of the Snack Shack coffee club. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Church in Harrison.
