Born March 8, 1937, in Jamestown, he was the son of the late George & Ermel Bingaman May. He was retired from White River Materials & was of the Church of Christ faith. Survivors include his wife, Joan Myers May of Batesville; 2 sons, Dayton May & Danny May, both of Floral; 2 daughters, Darra Moyers of Little Rock & Debra Riddle of Floral; a stepdaughter, Karen Fields of Batesville; 6 grandchildren; & a step-grandson. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hutchinson Mountain Church of Christ with Ralph Wallis officiating. Burial will be in Hutchinson Mountain Cemetery under the direction of Willis Funeral Service of Batesville. Pallbearers will be James Roy Young, Leon Garrett, Tom Barber, Billy Scoggin, Bill May & Dud May. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today. ______________________________________________________________________ --Batesville Daily Guard - Independence County, Arkansas Stephens, Avinell Avinell Stephens, 63, of Judsonia died Friday, March 27, 1998, at her home. Born in White County on August 23, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Samuel & Bessie Martin. She was retired from White-Rodgers of Batesville & was a member of Roosevelt Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Thomas Stephens; 3 sons, Thomas W. Stephens & Kenneth W. Stephens, both of Judsonia, & Stanley E. Stephens of Southside; & 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Union Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Lester Wood officiating. Pallbearers will be Richard McDougal, Gene McDougal, Harold McDougal, Jack McDougal, Justin McDougal, & Freddy McDougal. Honorary pallbearers will be Paul McDougal & Bennie McDougal. Pierce, Inez Ann Inez Ann Pierce, 76, of Batesville died Sunday, March 22, 1998, in a local hospital. Born October 9, 1921, in Ruddells, she was the daughter of John T. & Bertha D. Stevens Pierce. Survivors include 2 sons, Wayne Pierce of Melbourne, & Randy Page of Floral; 3 daughters, Linda Wilson & Patsy Branscum, both of Batesville, & Bobbie Reaves of Desha; a brother, J. D. Pierce of Batesville; 3 sisters, Gladys Baker of Independence, Missouri, Mary Wackerly of Batesville & Vera Rounds of Southside; 13 grandchildren; & 8 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; & a brother, Arlis Pierce. The funeral will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Crouch Funeral Home of Batesville with the Rev. Jim Black officiating. Burial will be in Barnes Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandson-in-law. Marcus S. T. Pankey, 74, of Oil Trough died Sunday, April 26, 1998, at his home. Born November 19, 1923, at Oil Trough, he was the son of Clarence Allen & Phronia Webb Pankey. He was a farmer & a Navy veteran of World War II. He served aboard the USS Elmore & participated in 7 amphibious landings. He was a member & deacon of White River Baptist Church at Oil Trough. Survivors include his wife, Marietta Kramer Pankey; a son, David Allen Sr. of Oil Trough; a daughter, Kay Jones of Normal, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Walt Jones of Fayetteville, Marcus Jones of Fort Stewart, Georgia, Mary Kathryn Murphy of Springdale, & David Allen Pankey, Jr., Natalie Dawn Pankey, & Matthew Ryan Pankey, all of Oil Trough; a great-grandson, McCormick Jones Murphy of Springdale; an aunt, Ines Pankey of Bradford; & several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at White River Baptist Church in Oil Trough with Thurlo Lee & Roy Crossland officiating. Burial will be in Maple Springs Cemetery under the direction of Dillinger Funeral Home of Newport. Pallbearers will be Jackie Cook, Kenny Kramer, Lester Pankey, Walter Pankey, Ron Webb, & Jimmy Wyatt. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of White River Baptist Church, Bill Allen, Jim Barnett, John Davis, Preston Grace Sr., Wesley Ketz Sr., & Paul Rhodes. Memorials may be made to the White River Baptist Church Building Fund.
