(* before an entry suggests that this entry made have errors and will need to be rechecked against the originals.) ************************************************************************ "SLAYDEN CEMETERY by James Logan Morgan" "This cemetery is located in the SW 1/4 of Section 25, TWP. 12 North, Range 3 West, just south of Hurley's Addition in Diaz. It was originally the family cemetery of Coleman Slayden (1814 - 17 Jun 1855) and his wife Elizabeth Briggs Slayden (1810 - 1864). The Newport Weekly Independent (27 Sep 1901) noted the following: 'The remains of the father and mother of Dr. (Joseph E.) Slayden of Tuckerman were removed from the family burying ground near Diaz to Walnut Grove.' Their children were: 1. William B. (1835 - 1864) 2. Atlantic (1839 - 1906) 3. Artamesa 'Mecy' (Mrs. Levi Eder) (1841 - 1870) 4. Joseph Everett (1844 - 1888) 5. Cordelia P. (Mrs. Jobe Greenshaw) (1846 - 1920) 6. Araminta 'Minty' (Mrs. James George) (1848 - 1871) 7. Amanda (1850 - 1864) 8. Josephine E. (Mrs. Benj. F. Ray) (1852 - 1883) This inventory was made 2 Feb 1964 by James Logan Mogan. Stones now in Walnut Grove Cemetery." RAY, J. E.
