She was born April 24, 1904, in Cooter, Missouri, a daughter of the late Paris and Etta Mae Pipkins. She was a housewife and attended the First United Pentecostal Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam May; a son, Chester; and two daughters, Mary and Fannie. Survivors include two sons, Charles Ingram and Grady May, both of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Lois Widner and Helen Loyd of Blytheville and Judy Minton of Pine Bluff; a sister, Annie Moody of Holyoke, Massachusetts; 30 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren and 25 great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be today from 2 until 4 p.m. at Hale-South Funeral Home . Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. A.D. Hlll officiating. Born March 24, 1912, in Dallas County, a son of the late Sam and Maude Sloop Raney. A retired truck driver, he was a member of the Beech Grove Baptist Church and was president of the Rex Raney Riding Club. He was preceded in death by a son, Rex Vernon Raney Jr. Survivors include his wife, Lois C. Raney; two daughters, Sue Raney Hays of Houston and Brenda Raney Bumpas of Fordyce; two brothers, Rudolph Raney and Joe Raney, both of Ivan (Dallas County); two sisters, Ophelia Stewart and Tressie Ault, both of Camden; two grandchildren and two great- grandchildren . She was born September 22, 1904, at Tillar, a daughter of the late Freeland Theodore Grisham and Newton Lafayette Jones Grisham. She was a graduate of Galloway College. She was a member, choir director and Sunday school teacher at First Presbyterian Church. She taught in the Warren Pulblic Schools prior to marrying James Edward Hurley Sr. Her husband and a son, James Edward Hurley Jr. preceded her in death. Survivors include a son, Ted Hurley of Warren; a daughter, Jane Cashion of Little Rock; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church at Fordyce. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Lois "Banty" Oliver, and two sons, Wilbur G. He was a retired employee of Ford Motor Company, a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict and a member of Central Missionary Baptist Church of Warren. She was a graduate of Tyler Business College, a member of Epworth-Parker United Methodist Church and a retired secretary for Hughes Tool Company. She married Everette L. Flippen April 17, 1952. She was born February 20, 1926, at Hope, the daughter of the late Scott Warren and Betty Elizabeth Taylor Warren. She worked for Ben Pearson and attended the Assembly of God Church. She was of the Pentecostal faith. She was married to J.T. Kilburn, who preceded her in death, along with an infant son. SAN DIEGO -- Ronald Eric Parker Sr., 48, of San Diego, died February 17, 1998. He was born March 17, 1949, at Pine Bluff, a son of George Parker of Flint, Michigan, and Ralph Ann Jones of Pine Bluff. He was a graduate of Merrill High School, attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff and Southeast Arkansas Technical College. He had worked for the Department of Correction and the U.S. Postal Service. He had served in the Marine Corps and was a Methodist. She was born June 30, 1903, at Camden, Arkansas. Her family moved to Fordyce in 1945. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Fordyce and Plain Dirt Garden Club. She organized the first band at Dierks (Arkansas) High School and was president of the Women's Missionary Union at her church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Obie Echols, and a son. Survivors include a son, Dr. O.L. Echols of Port Neches, Texas; two daughters, Ginger Pennington of Texarkana, Arkansas, and Judith Stokes of Texarkana, Texas; a sister, Salita Rogers of Houston; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Born November 2, 1926, at Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Herman Longacre and Marie Zieders Longacre. She was reared in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania, and had spent most of her life in Jacksonville, Florida. She moved to Redfield last year. She was a Lutheran. She was preceded in death by her husband. Survivors include a son, Charles Guy Cunningham of Woodson; two daughters, Susan Marie Sledge of Woodson and Debra Lea Roberts of Redfield; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was the oldest member of Holly Springs Missionary Baptist Church near Star City, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Garnett Extension Homemakers Club and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bart Carter, who died on April 12, 1977; two sons, Robbie Ray Carter and Odis Gene Carter; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. She was born on October 16, 1964, at Pine Bluff, a daughter of Charles and Sherlene Brown Baxter of Melbourne. She was formerly of the Sulphur Springs community (Jefferson County) and attended Watson Chapel schools. She attended Sulphur Springs Baptist Church and was a licensed practical nurse. She enjoyed taking care of neglected animals and her hobbies included growing flowers. She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Baxter; and grandparents. He was born on February 11, 1940, at Warren, a son of the late Floyd Sinks and Juanita Langston Sinks. He was millwright and iron worker for Ark-Oregon-Pneumatics of Crossett. He served in the Arkansas National Guard and was a Baptist. He was born on December 28, 1929, at Jackson, Mississippi, a son of the late Walter P. and Lucille Young Ponder. He grew up at Louisville, Mississippi, and moved to Seymour, Indiana, in 1952. He lived there until 1997, when he moved to Arkansas. He was a retired diesel mechanic, working for Bestway Trucking Company at Seymour. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church at Sheridan. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Ponder; and a sister, Dottsie Ponder. Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Findley Ponder, whom he married on October 30, 1952; two sons, Tom Ponder of Sheridan and Larry Ponder of Mobile, Alabama; two daughters, Deni Hurt of Seymour and Patty Lee of Brownstown, Indiana; a sister, Nancy Ponder of Seymour; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Born December 30, 1959, at Huachuca, Arizona, she was a daughter of Joseph Alfred and Marjorie Lorene Clark Olive of Redfield, Arkansas. She graduated from Kofa High School at Yuma, Arizona, in 1977 and later graduated from the University of Phoenix in 1994. She had worked as a comptroller for a transportation comparly in Arizona. Other survivors include her husband, Danie E. Stulce; a daughter, Jillian Stulce of Mesa; a son, Zebulon "Zeb" Stulce of Mesa; and a brother, Jimmy Joe Olive of Lake Havasu City, Arizona. She was born on July 31, 1915, at Glendale, a daughter of the late W.V. "Bud" Hoover and Eva Wilson Hoover. She was raised and educated at Glendale, finishing schoo] in 1934. She was a lunchroom manager for 17 years at Glendale Public Schools. She was a Sunday school teacher at Glendale Methodist Church and was a member of Olivet Methodist Church at Calmer. Her hobbies included fishing and camping. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Jacobs, who died in 1984; five brothers; and three sisters. Survivors include a son,Wesley "Buddy" Jacobs of McGehee; a daughter, Shirley Morgan of Little Rock; three sisters, Mary Will Chambers and Annie Pearl Taylor, both of Glendale, and Lorene Lowrimore of Woodstock, Illinois; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was born on April 25, 1945, at Swan Lake, a daughter of Elnora Kidd of Pine Bluff and the late Wesley Kidd Sr. She was a member of Reynold's Chapel Church at Sherrill when she was young. She moved back to Pine Bluff years later when she became her mother's caretaker. She was a member of Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church and the senior choir, where she was a vice president, an assistant secretary and served on the nurse's guild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Lee Cann Sr., whom she married in 1963. He was reared and received his early education at Greenwood where he graduated from high school. He attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where he graduated in 1927. While at the university, he was editor of the annual, The Razorback and the newspaper, The Arkansas Traveler. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon social fraternity, Phi Beta Kappa scholastic fraternity and Blue Key honorary society. In 1927, he was employed by Southwestern Bell Telephone Company at St. Louis. Other company assignments took him to Webster Groves and Moberly, Missouri, Little Rock and Jonesboro. In July 1938, he came to Pine Bluff as Southwestern Bell's district manager for Southeast Arkansas. He continued there until he retired in October 1971. He was president of Pine Bluff Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation. He was past president of Greater Pine Bluff Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Southeast Arkansas, Pine Bluff Community Concert Association and the Senior Babe Ruth Baseball League. A member of First Presbyterian Church, he was a deacon and chairman of the board of deacons, was an active elder for 21 years and chairman of the Sanctuary Building Committee for six years. He was an active member of Sons of the American Revolution, serving As president of the Bayou Bartholomew Chapter. He was president of Pine Bluff and Jefferson County Friends of the Library. He was married to the former Jessie Dorsett in Jonesboro on May 14, 1934. She died in Pine Bluff on January 25, 1968. A retired teacher, she had lived in McGehee, Arkansas, until 1991 Before moving to St. Louis. She was born in England, Arkansas, a daughter of the Rev. E.J.A. McKinney, an historian of the Southern Baptists in Arkansas. She grew up in Little Rock and attended Little Rock High School which later became Central High School. She received an associate's degree from Central Baptist College at Conway, Arkansas, and did further study in several Arkansas schools. She moved to Southeast Arkansas where she taught in Tillar, McArthur, Desha Central and McGehee. She and her husband owned and operated a farm near McArthur. She joined First Methodist Church at McGehee and was a Sunday school teacher and officer of the church. She edited 17 annual publications for the Desha County Historical Society and was its president for many years. She was a member of the McGehee Chamber of Commerce and Desha County Library Board. In 1975, she was named McGehee's "Woman of the Year." She married Joseph Hilliard Stroud in 1924. He preceded her in death In 1974. Survivors include three sons, George Stroud of St. Louis, Joe Stroud Of Detroit and Bill Stroud of Philadelphia; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. As a young woman, she was flight attendant for Delta Air Lines and was a resident of Dallas from 1966 to 1968. She moved to the Denver area in l972 and resided there until moving to San Diego in 1992. In Denver, she worked as an ophthalmic assistant. In San Diego she was a member of and volunteer for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Encinitas, California. She is survived by two daughters, Dana Hess of Encinitas, California, and Annalise Hurinsky of Woodland Hills, California; a sister, Robin Jordan McNulty of Pine Bluff, and a granddaughter. He was born on November 12, l925, at Springdale, a son of the late Grover Cleveland Leslie and Josephine Ellis Leslie. He received his early education at Fordyce, where he graduated from high school. He played football at the school. He attended and graduated from Arkansas A&M College, now the University of Arkansas at, Monticello, where he was named as an All American for the football team. He received his master's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He returned to Monticello to coach the football team from 1950 to 1959. During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines and then the Army Air Corps. He served in the Arkansas National Guard after the war and was called to active duty dunng the Berlin Air Lift. He served in the militaIy for 42 years and retired as a colonel. He was appointed by the governor as a property and physical officer for the Army and Air National Guard from 1982 until 1985. He moved to Pine Bluff in 1960, where he was a special agent for Hartford Insurance Company until 1982. He was a member and an elder at First Presbyterian Church, where he was clerk of the Session. He was a commissioner from the church to the Arkansas Presbytery and served on the Policy Committee of the Presbytery. In recent years, he gave the church technical support for computer programs. Survivors include his wife, Oralee Bryant Leslie, whom he married on August 25, 1948, at Fordyce; a son, the Rev. Bill Leslie of Warren; a brother, Kenneth Leslie of Texarkana, Texas; and two grandchildren. She was born December 12, 1919, at Murray, Kentucky, daughter of The late James B Herbert Hutchinson and Elva Batchelor Hutchinson. She was a registered dietician who was recognized nationally for more than 50 years of service. After she graduated from Arkansas A&M College, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and taught home economlcs, she continued her education. She received graduate degrees from the University of Tennessee and Duke University. While at Duke, she was a nutrition instructor at Duke University Medical School. Her consulting career included the Arkansas State Health Department and many south Arkansas hospitals. After she retired, she was a consultant for the Southeast Arkansas Human Development Center for 10 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church at Monticello, Where she was member of the Hutchinson Sunday School Class and the administrative board. She was a past president of the United Methodist Women. She was a Girl Scout Council leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was a past president and life member of the Monticello Junior Auxiliary, American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary and the Arkansas and American Dietetic Associations. She was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. James H. He was born February 21, 1909, at Fordyce, son of the late L. L. Trussell and Blanche Wilkinson Trussell. He was a lawyer, state legislator and tree farmer. He graduated from the University of Arkansas Law School and was admitted to the bar in 1933. He practiced law with his first wife from 1934, when they were married, until 1973, when she died. He continued practicing until 1983. He was elected to the state Senate for two terms, from 1945 to 1953. He represented Cleveland, Dallas and Ouachita counties. He then was elected to the state House of Representatives for several terms, from 1953 to 1960 and from 1965 to 1966. While a legislator, he was a founding member of the Legislative Council, beginning in 1947, and served as chairman in 1949. One of the Major projects he worked on was a series of bills that modernized the state's basic election laws. They were passed in 1949. He was the first chairman of the Legislative Audit Committee. He sponsored bills that established the uniform commercial code and revised many property laws. He was a member of First Methodist Church at Fordyce and was the chairman of the board of trustees. He was a member of the Rotary Club and was president of the Fordyce School Board. He was a member of the board of directors at Fordyce Bank & Trust Company since 1952 and was chairman of the board of directors at First National Bank at Fordyce. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nona Lee Bryan Trussell, whom he married in 1934, and who died in 1973. Survivors include his wife, Josephine Ethridge Adair Trussell; a son, Dr. Thomas Trussell of Little Rock; a stepdaughter, Dr. Penny Ferguson of Arkadelphia; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchiidren.
