Born June 21, 1909, at Bookman he was a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Urnst Stoudamire. He was a chipper for Standard Brake Shoe Foundry and New Town Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Blenda O'Dell, and a brother, Raymond Abernathy. Survivors include two sisters, Sarah Chenault and Mary Baldwin Hankins, both of Little Rock. He was born on October 8, 1959, at Little Rock, a son of Oren and Betty McSwain of North Little Rock. He worked for Arkansas Power and Light (now Entergy) in 1980 at Lynch Generating Station and transferred to Pine Bluff in 1986, where he was a power dispatcher at the System Operations Center. He then transferred in 1996 to The Woodlands. He worked for Entergy for 18 years. He enjoyed golf and won many tournaments. He also enjoyed duck hunting. Other survivors include his wife, Karen McSwain; a son, Bryan Michael McSwain of The Woodlands; a daughter, Kimberly Ann McSwain of The Woodlands; and two sisters, Sharon Moran and Beverly Cook, residences unavailable. She was born on February 11, 1905, at Sulphur City (Washington County), a daughter of the late John L. and Edmonia Elizabeth Curtis McConnell. She was raised and received her early education in northwest Arkansas and graduated from Prairie Grove High School. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, where she was a member of the Phi Mu sorority. She and her first husband lived at Prairie Grove and later at Rogers. They moved to Helena in 1938 and to Pine Bluff in 1954. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the Administrative Board and a past president of the Altar Guild. She was a former trustee of the First Methodist Endowment Fund, an honorary life member of United Methodist Women and a study goup leader for 15 years. She was a former trustee for Arkansas Methodist Health Services and an American Red Cross Grey Lady volunteer at Jefferson Regional Medical Center for 10 years. She was a member of the Trinity Village Board of Trustees for seven years and was a member of the Sesame Club. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wayne A. Stone, whom she married in 1927 at Fayetteville, and who died in 1984. He had been president and chairman of the board of Simmons Bank. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Dr. Marshall T. Steel, whom she married in 1985 at Pine Bluff, and who died in 1989. He was a retired president of Hendrix College. But to his friends, he did more than that. He was a family man, a dancer and a good listener. "He died knowing a lot of my secrets," Ophelia T. King, friend, said. Earle Nelson Chanay, 74, of Pine Bluff, died April 16, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 23, 1923, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Ruben Chanay Sr. and Allie Bell Chanay. Chanay received his early education in Pine Bluff Public Schools and graduated from Merrill High School. From there, his education did not end. He received a bachelor of arts from AM&N College, now the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. He then received a master's degree in education from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. He began teaching at Parkin and later taught at Star City. Chanay became a principal in the Pine Bluff School District in 1954 and remained a principal for 37 years. He retired in 1991 from Broadmoor Elementary School, where he worked for 21 years. Chanay was a good principal, King said. She taught first grade at Broadmoor Elementary School and said he was very understanding. If someone made mistakes, he'd discuss them with that person later, instead of addressing them in front of others, King said. "Whenever they (teachers) had challenges or problems, he was always with them," O.R. Holiday, a friend, said. Holiday served on the trustee board at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church with Chanay. He said Chanay, who was also church clerk, served with all his energy. Chanay also served on the Church Council. Besides serving his school and church, Chanay also served in the Army. Entering on May 4, 1943, he served in World War II and was awarded a Purple Heart. Chanay was active in other areas as well. Holiday said Chanay was a good dancer who liked ballroom dancing. He was a member of the Arkansas Association of Retired Persons, Arkansas Education Association, National Education Association and a board member of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. He was also a member of the Arkansas Retirement Board, the advisory board for the Pine Bluff Youth Council and a former member of the Pine Bluff Planning Commission. "He was concerned about community affairs," Doris Edwards, a friend, said. Edwards, who graduated high school with Chanay, said they had a brother- sister relationship and almost everyone he came in contact with loved him. Survivors include a son, Marcus A. He worked for Penn Athletic Company, where he was named Engineer of the Year before retiring in 1992. He was member of the Jonesboro Metropolitan Area Planning Commission and the committee for the Nature Center. "Whatever is good for the community, you can be sure that Wallace and the family were involved in it," Louis Ramsay, a longtime friend, said. Wallace P. McGeorge Jr., 82, of Pine Bluff, died April 27, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 13, 1915, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Wallace Percie and Bessie Winters McGeorge. He was raised and received his early education at Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School. McGeorge attended the Virginia Military Institute at Lexington, Virginia and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While at Fayetteville, he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. McGeorge worked for several businesses that his family owned. "He got to work early, and he stayed there late," Jim DanaherSr., another friend, said. He was chairman of the board af Pine Bluff Sand and Gravel Company and was a partner in the construction and stone business with the Dickinson family of Little Rock since the early 1930s. He was a former bank director, levee commissioner and past president of Associated General Contractors of America at Memphis. He was a retired director of the National Stone and Gravel Association at Silver Spring, Maryland. Besides being active in the business world, McGeorge participated in church activities. He was trustee and member of First Baptist Church at Pine Bluff for many years. He was a "behind-the-scenes" individual, said Dr. John McClanahan, a retired pastor of the church. He said McGeorge was faithful, loyal and a solid person. McGeorge's loyalty extended to the community as well. Whenever an organization had a drive, McGeorge would participate, Danaher said. McGeorge was also a founding member of the Trinity Foundation. One of the organization's activities include awarding scholarships to students. McGeorge served as an officer and director until his death. McGeorge also liked to duck hunt, Ramsay said. He was a member of Four Forks Hunting Club. He also enjoyed the horse races. "We went all over the United States to horse races," Danaher said. McGeorge was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Boswell McGeorge, whom he married on September 19, 1939, at Pine Bluff, and who died on January 7, 1998; a brother, Harvey W. McGeorge, who died in 1978; and. a sister, Frances McGeorge Henes, who died in 1964. Survivors include two sons, Scott McGeorge and Wallace P. Julius Sterling Brown, 72, of Pine Bluff, died April 29, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. "I lost a personal friend and mentor, as did a large segment of the community here in White Hall," said Solon Mobley, an associate superintendent of the White Hall School District. Born on September 21, 1925, at Pine Rluff, Brown was a son of the late Charles Andrew and lnez Williams Brown. He was reared and received his early education at Pine Bluff. He was a 1943 Pine Bluff High School graduate and an Army veteran of World War I1. But Brown didn't end his education. He graduated from Arkansas A&M College, now the University of Arkansas at Monticello, and later received his master's degree and administrator's degree from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. Brown's first teaching job landed him at White Hall High School, where he taught and coached from 1949 to 1953. In 1953, he hecame the principal at the school, leaving in 1958 to become the principal at Dollarway High School. Dr. Ruth Roberts, who taught English at Dollarway High School, said it was under Brown's leadership that she grew to love the teaching profession. Brown stayed at Dollarway until 1966, when he became the superintendent of the White Hall School District. He retired in 1986, but it was during this time as superintendent that Brown turned the poor school district into one that was ranked one of the top 20 in the country. "He saw and guided it into one of the leading districts and educational institutions in the state," said Jerry Lybrand, superintendent of the White Hall School District. Lybrand said it was while Brown served as superintendent that several facilities were built. Brown was a member of the Arkansas Association of Educational Administrators. The Julius S. Brown Administration Building in the White Hall School District was named after him. Besides focusing a majority of his attention on education, Brown participated in other organizations. He was a member and deacon at First Baptist Church. And he was a member, former president and Paul Harris Fellow of the West Pine Bluff Rotary Club. He participated in youth baseball programs for many years and was a sports and Razorback fan. Brown was the first recipient of the White Hall Chamber of Commerce's first W.F. "Jack"Moody Community Service Award in 1985. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Dell DuPriest Walker Brown; a son, Larry Walker of Memphis; two sisters, Frances Steed and Lou Woodfield, both of Pine Bluff; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was president of the Pine Bluff Cotton Exchange and Arkansas Cotton Trade Association. He was a member of the American Cotton Shippers Association and First United Methodist Church, where he was president of the Wednesday Morning Men's Breakfast Club. He retired in 1981 from Stone Cotton Company Inc., which he owned with his brother and operated for 50 years. He liked to bowl and travel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Ann Clement Stone, whom he married in 1933 at Pine Bluff, and who died in 1992; a brother, J.F.
