Born November 27, 1927, at Abtsdorf, Czechoslaza, the son of the late Rudolf Frimmel and Maria Neugebauer Frimmel. He was a Catholic and worked in construction. He was preceded in death by his wife, Theresia Fro'Hner Neugebauer. He is survived by a daughter, Gertrud Wilson of Pine Bluff; a stepdaughter, Gisela Ballweg of Germany and a grandchild. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff with the Rev. G.L. Ford officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden. _____________________________ ESSIE MOON Essie Lee Moon, 87, of Monticello, died Saturdav at Monticello. She was a Seventh Day Adventist and had moved from Monroe to Monticello to be near her children. She is survived by a son, Issac Moon of Monticello; a daughter, Mary Howard of Monticello; three brothers, Joe Sugget of Texas, Grover Suggett of Indiana and Robert Suggett of Rich; 23 grandchildren; and several great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Tuesday 10 a.m. at Fowler Funeral Home of Brinkley. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park at West Helena. _____________________________ WILLIAM NELSON William "Bill" Louis Nelson, 52, of Sheridan, died May 30, 1998, at his home. Born December 13, 1945 at Little Rock, the son of Theta Thomas Nelson of Sheridan and the late C. E. Nelson. He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, was retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal, and was a Baptist. Other survivors include his wife, Karin E. Karwowski Nelson of Sheridan; two daughters, Marina Nelson Salono and Francis Nelson Taylor, both of Sheridan; and three grandchildren. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, at 10 a.m. in the Salem Cemetery at East End (Saline County) with the Rev. Tim Montgomery officiating. She was born July 1, 1902 at Rison, the daughter of the late Will Parker and Bama Hall Parker. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel No.1 Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Billings. Born April 29, 1908 in Nevada County, the daughter of the late J. R. Boyce and Emma Jones Boyce. She was reared in Nevada County, Arkansas. She moved to Pine Bluff in 1934, and worked at Cohen's Department Store and at Dillard's in the sales department. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Carr Memorial United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Loys Emmett Joyce; a grandchild, Bill Simpson; a sister, Ruby Merritt; and three brothers, Clyde Boyce, Carl Boyce and Bill Boyce. Survivors include two daughters, Frances Simpson of Albequerque, New Mexico, and Betty Doherty of Pine Bluff; a sister, Lyda Williams of Little Rock; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was born on August 10, 1927, in Jefferson County, a daughter of the late Frank and India Taylor Shults. She was raised and received her early education at Pine Bluff, graduating from Linwood High School. She worked for Southwestern Bell for 10 years, then worked for Kroger for 20 years. She retired in 1989 as a meat wrapper. She was a memberSouth Side Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Leonard Morris; and two stepsons, Harry E. Gatlin and Larry R. Gatlin. Survivors include her husband, Harvey Eugene Gatlin, whom she married on March 11, 1989, at Pine Bluff; two sons, Andy Morris and Kerry Morris, both of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Beverly Clark of Vacaville, California; a sister, Imogene Bitely of Tamo; a stepson, John A. He was born on August 8, 1922, at Nashville, Arkansas, a son of the late Buford Hugh and Merle Bettis Copeland. He was the owner of the K-Royal Motel and Orange Blossom Inn at Branson and was a member of Union Hill Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Essie Horn Copeland, who died on January 11, 1994; and a son, Roy Gene Copeland, who died on June 13, 1974. The family will be at Earl Cook's home. _____________________________ BERTHA CULP Bertha Mae "Bert" Culp, 67, of White Hall, died May 31, 1998, at University Hospital at Little Rock. She was born on November 8, 1930, at Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Raleigh Wooley Sr. and Jo Artie Ashcraft Wooley. She was raised and educated at Pine Bluff, where she graduated from Pine Bluff High School. She lived at White Hall all her adult life. She was a former employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church at White Hall. She was also active with the White Hall PTA, the White Hall Boosters Club and was a charter coach for the White Hall Girls Pony League. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milus E. Culp, whom she married on November 3, 1950, at Pine Bluff, and who died on December 3, 1995. Survivors include three daughters, Vicky L. Culp, Shirley C. Dawson and Sandra J. Culp, all of White Hall; two brothers, Joseph E. Wooley of Pine Bluff and Raleigh Wooley of White Hall; two sisters, Ola Allen of Warren and Louise Brown of Olathe, Kansas; and a grandchild. She was born on August 29, 1916 in Grant County, a daughter of late Lawrence Hamilton and Troy Gwin Hamilton Gordon. She was a homemaker and attended Landmark Missions Baptist Church at Sheridan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Reese, whom she married in 1936, and who died on February 23, l982; and a brother, Gwin Gordon. Survivors include a son, Gordon Reese of Pine Bluff; two sisters, Lyndell Harper of Pine Bluff and Ruby Lee Holloway of Sheridan; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the nursing home. _____________________________ CHARLES POTTER Charles Gaunt Potter, 80, of Dallas, died May 25,1998, at Doctor's Hospital at Dallas. He was born on July 1, 1917, at Pine Bluff, a son of the late Joseph Edward and Edith Mae Gaunt Potter. He received a mechanical engineering degree from the University of Texas and was a registered professional engineer. He retired in 1982 as chief engineer for Murray-Carver Inc. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as captain in the Transportation Corps during the "Battle of the Bulge." He was a patrol dad and Scout Master of Troope 36 at White Rock United Methodist Church when his sons were in the program. He was a member of the Dallas County Audubon Society, American Birding Association and the Texas Ornithological Society. He was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Potter Orr. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Woodul Potter; four sons, Charles Robert "Bob" Potter of Dallas, Joseph Thomas "Tom" Potter of New Castle, Colorado, John Edward Potter of Aurora, Colorado and William Ross "Bill" Potter of Garland, Texas; and four grandchildren. Thomas, 71, of Pine Bluff, died May 25, 1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 18, 1926, at Tremble, a daughter of the late Johnnie Green and Anna Terry Green. Survivors include three sons; A.T. Thomas and Willie S. Thomas Sr., both of Pine Bluff, and Jessie Thomas of Seattle; three daughters; Gloria J. Green and Linda Thomas Phillips, both of Stockton, California, and Laura E. Thomas of Pine Bluff; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Burial will be in VA, National Cemetery at Little Rock by Christian Way Funeral Home. _____________________________ FRANCIS CASTEEL Francis "Robby" Casteel, 26, of Memphis, died May 31, 1998 at The Regional Medical Center at Memphis, from injuries received in an automobile accident. He was born December 21, 1971, at Charleston, South Carolina, a son of Robert and Frances Casteel of Bartlett, Tennessee. He was a member of Dahlgren United Methodist Church at Dahlgren, Virginia. He; was a 1990 honor graduate of King George High School at King George, Virginia. He was a gaming employee at Gold Strike Casino Resort where he was a lead guitarist. Other survivors include a brother, David Jackson Casteel of Bartlett; a sister, Janna Louise Casteel of Bartlett and a grandmother, Juanita Casteel of White. Hall, Arkansas. WILLIAM JONES Dr. William Thomas Jones, 81, of Monticello, died June 1, 1998. at Drew Memorial Hospital at Monticello. He was born on January 31,1917, in Union County, a son of the late Derwood Monroe Jones and Ida Rhodes Jones. He was a retired dentist. He moved to Monticello in 1946, where he opened a dental office. He served on the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners for five years. Three of those five years, he was the secretary. He was a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy of General Dentistry, the Psi Omega Dental Fraternity, the committee to establish the School of Hygiene in Arkansas and the executive committee for the State Dental Association. He was also a member of the American College of Dentists for 20 years, the Academy of General Dentists for l5 years and was a former president of the Southeast Arkansas Dental Society. He retired in 1984. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Monticello, where he was a deacon since l957 and chair of the Finance Committee for the Church Building Program. He also was the superintendent of the Young Peoples Sunday School Department for 21 years and was a choir member for 40 years. He was a former member of the Drew County Chamber of Commerce, the City Planning Commission, the Monticello Country Club Board of Directors for three terms and was a member of the Monticello Rotary Club, where he was the song leader for 25 years and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he was a major and served in the U. S. Army Dental Corp. He and his wife took many cruises and traveled around the world. Survivors include his wife, Sara Buchanan Jones, a son, Robert Edward Jones of Arlington, Texas; a daughter, Judy Jones Henley of Fayetteville; a sister, Margaret Templeton of Junction City; and six grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Stephenson-Dearman Funeral Home at Monticello with the Rev. Dennis Dodson officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery at Monticello. _____________________________ CECIL McGIBBONY Cecil C. McGibbony, 86, of Sierra Vista, Arizona, died June 1, 1998, a his home. He was born on July 31, 1911, a Pine Bluff, a son of the late George and Carrie McGibbony. After graduating from high school, he moved to Washington D.C., where he had a football scholarship to George Washington University. He played varsity football and basketball, and was drafted to the Baltimore Celtics football team. He worked for the Acacia Mutual Life Insurance Company. He and his wife later moved to Arlington, Virginia. He worked for the Federal Home Loan Bank Board, and at the time of his retirement, he was a map maker for Geological Survey. He played golf until the age of 80 and enjoyed gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie Biggs McGibbony, whom he married in May 1938, and who died on February 17, 1998. Survivors include a son, Robert McGibbony of Fredericksburg, Virginia; a daughter, Pat Mangum of Sierra Vista; a brother, C.W. McGibbony of Conway, Arkansas; and two sisters, Cathrine Sumrall and Louise Cathcart, both of Little Rock. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sierra Evangelical Lutheran Church at Sierra Vista with the Rev. Harl Pike officiating. A private burial will be at a later date. He was born on June 27, 1920, at Dumas, a son of the late Charlie Charles and Mary Palmer Charles. He was a laborer and a member of First Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Mae Jenkins Charles. Survivors include four brothers, Willie Charles of Chicago, Wesley Charles of Warren, Joe Charles of Pine Bluff and Romer Charles of Star City; and three sisters, Hazel Rochelle and Earnestine Rochelle, both of Star City, and Addie Copeland of McGehee. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Garden. _____________________________ JO BOWDEN Jo West Bowden, 77, of Rangely, Colorado, died May 26, 1998, at Rangely District Hospital. She was born on May 21,1921, at Pine Bluff, a daughter of the late Chalmous West and Pebble Gibson West. She was a nurse's aide, day care mother and a homemaker. She was a member of Alameda Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed collecting, fishing, cooking and going to church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene G. Bowden, whom she married in 1941, divorced in 1952 and remarried in 1968. They were married for 38 years. Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Susan Hinaman Rangely; and four grandchildren. The funeral was at 9 a.m. Monday at Olinger Funeral Home at Wheat Ridge, Colorado with the Rev. Kenneth Jackson officiating. "Buck" Gober, 71, of Pine Bluff, died June 2,1998, at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. He was born on November 12, 1926, at Indianola, Mississippi, a son of the late William Henry and Maude Brown Gober. He was raised and received his early education at Indianola. He worked for International Paper Company at Mobile, Alabama and Pine Bluff for 46 years, retiring in 1991 as a bleach plant operator. He also worked for Reliable Medical Transportation. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Indianola Masonic Lodge Number 0450, the Wahabi Shrine Temple, Order of the Eastern Star and the Quarter Century Club at International Paper. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Gober; and a sister, Thelma Hudgens. Survivors include his wife, Ann Gardner Gober, whom he married on September 3, 1954; a daughter, Carllotta "Cookie" Taylor of White Hall; three sisters, Annie M. Gartman of Citronelle, Alabama, Beatrice M. Holmes of Indianola and Dorothy L. Cotton of Smithton, Illinois; and two grandchildren. She was born on June 8, 1954, at Gillett, a daughter of the late Cartest Brown and Alberta Terry Brown. She was a member of Unity Temple Church of God in Christ and was a former nurse's aide at Northbrook Nursing Home at Chicago. He was born on March 3, 1915, in Drew County, a son of the late Ned Whitaker and Belle Arrington Whitaker. He was a retired farmer and a Baptist. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Crain Whitaker; two sons, Lloyd Whitaker of Roanoke, Virginia and Raymond Whitaker of Cincinnati; and four grandchildren. She was a lab technician for International Paper and was a member of the Paper Workers Union. She graduated from Gould High School and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Gould. He was born on March 5, 1939, at Roe (Monroe County), a son of the late John Henry Hackelton and Violet Lindsey Hackelton. He served in the National Guard, was a truck driver and was a member of Community Chapel Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Neva Dell Hackelton. He entered the construction business and became a brick mason. He later became an independent contractor in masonry and the home construction business. After his full-time career, he resided in Sherman, Texas and Port Arthur, Texas, where he worked part time. He returned to Springfield and lived there until moving to Pine Bluff in 199O. He was a member of a masonic lodge in Springfield. He was preceded in death by his wife, June Elizabeth Tate Gott, who died on July 16, 1995; and a daughter, Patty Sue Gott. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He was also retired from the Civil Service at the Pine Bluff Arsenal and his own security agency. He was a member of the American Legion at White Hall and was a member of the Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by two sons, Jon Alan Parmer, who died on July 19, 1953, and Steven Ray Parmer, who died on December 10, 1986; and two sisters, Lorene Barnes and Edith Cox. He was born on August 11, 1947, at Hot Springs, a son of Helen Passineau Schneller of Hot Springs and the late Raymond Schneller. He was raised and educated at Hot Springs and served in the Navy. He worked for the Garland County Sheriff's Department before becoming an Arkansas state trooper. He was a state trooper at Stuttgart for six years and at Pine Bluff for six years. He then moved to Star City. He retired on November 1, 1997, and owned Kuntry Auto Sales at Star City.
