Archie D. Boone, 73, of Clarksville died Friday, Oct. 30, 1998, at his home. He was a son of the late Benjamin Harrison and Nona Ester Franklin Boone, World War II veteran, carpenter and minister having served as pastor of Clarksville Christian Church for four and one-half years and the Indian Mission at Henryetta, Okla., for 16 years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Minnie Doris Harris Boone; three daughters, Jo Ann Hill, Doris Jean Clark, and Catherine Sue Allen, all of Clarksville; one son, Charles Ray Boone of Clarksville; one brother, Ben Boone Jr. of Spiro, Okla.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Clarksville Christian Church with Rev. Jeff Doherty and Rev. Sam Howell officiating. He was a member of Oakland Street Church, son of the late Nathan King and Mandy Callahan Griffith, a retired farmer, coal miner, and laborer, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Susie Eastep Griffith. He is survived by three sons, James R. B. Griffith, Kenneth Edward Griffith and Vernon Lee Griffith, all of Clarksville; four sisters, Ollie B. A native of Prairie Grove, he was a son of the late Marion Lee and Mary Savannah Lee Caldwell, a retired farmer, and served in the U. S. Army in Korea. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Glenda Bly Caldwell; three daughters, Martha Caldwell, Mary Caldwell, and Tanya Caldwell, all of the home; five sisters, Pansy Phillips, Juanita Ray and Esther Stanley, all of Madera, Calif., Inez Wyrch of Sanger, Calif., and Margaret Voles of Brainerd, Minn.; and two brothers, Donald Caldwell and Ernest Caldwell, both of Clarksville. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lillie Garland Dixon; four nieces, Alice Gibbons of Ozark, Agnes Harris of Cedar Hill, Texas, Ellen McKenzie of Little Rock, and Anna Jo Lewis of Rogers; and four nephews, James Holben and Roy Holben, both of Clarksville, Efton Holben of California; and Glen Holben of Paris. She was a native of Murray, former resident of Newton County, member of the Nail Christian Union Church, daughter of the late Flemon E. and Annie Self Watson, and widow of Rev. John Carney. She is survived by five sons, Doyle Carney and Virl Carney, both of Nail, Mirl Carney of Kansas City, Kan., Delbert Carney of russellville, and Limon Carney of Huntsville; two other daughters, Floy Willis of Kansas City, Kan., and Ruth Smith of Russellville; two brothers, George Watson of Shiloh and Lewis Watson of Springdale; six sisters, Ader Reynolds, Ida Willis, Mae Neal and Nola Edgmon, all of Springdale, and Nancy Sams and Leta Rylee, both of Shiloh; 39 grandchildren; 68 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A native of Checotah, Okla., she was a daughter of the late Jefferson and Willie Adeline Carter Nunley, widow of Paul N. Russell, former resident of New Mexico and California, a former insurance salesperson, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Geneva Miekle. She is survived by three sons, Joaquin Russell of Oregon, Irvin Russell of Arkansas, and Don Russell of Oklahoma; one daughter, Paulette Decker of California; and one sister, Allie Bridges of Texas, formerly of Clarksville. Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Parkview Cemetery in New Plymouth, Idaho, with Pastor Bill Sperry officiating. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Alice and Bill Felkins and Cynthia English, all of Clarksville; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Robert and Louise Mills of Atkins and D. F. (Hoss) Mills of Clarksville; one sister, Ethel Eddins Whitby of Little Rock; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Keesee, 80, of Scott died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998. She was the widow of Amburs Keesee, a member of the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church of Rose City, and a resident of Benton for 36 years where she attended Sharon Missionary Baptist Church and was employed as a nurse at Benton Service Center for 17 years. She is survived by one daughter, Elaine Keesee of Scott; three sons, A. R. (Sonny) Keesee of Oklahoma, R. W. (Buddy) Keesee of England, formerly of Clarksville, and William Patrick Keesee of Mississippi; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. (Dude) Blackard, 86, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born in the Bethlehem Community, member of Woodland Baptist Church, former Baptist Church deacon, member of the Blackard Quartet for 45 years, retired coal miner, and former owner and operator of Blackard Salvage Shop for several years. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joyce Blackard; one daughter and son-in-law, Jetta and Charles Martin of Plano, Texas; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bill and Mary Blackard of Tahlequah, Okla., and Jim and Morine Blackard of Carrollton, Texas; one sister, Rena Hardgrave of Clarksville; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Chronister. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Captain Joseph Bailey Logan, USN Retired, 68, of Dendron, Va., died Thursday, Nov. 12, 1998, in Williamsburg, Va. A native of Arkansas, Captain Logan enlisted in the Navy in 1948. He attended the U. S. Naval Academy where he graduated with the class of 1953. The majority of his career was spent serving in the Submarine Force aboard the USS Reguin, George Washington, Patrick Henry, James Madison and as Commissioning Commanding Officer of Frances Scott Key. He also served as Commander Submarine Division Sixty Two and later on the staffs of Comsublant, Comsubpac and Cinclant/Cinclantfit. Following retirement from the Navy, he was employed for 13 years for Virginia Power at the Surry Nuclear Power Plant. He was a member of the Retired Officers Association, the Submarine League and the Submarine Veterans Association. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Dianna Logan; one brother, Wilson Logan of Aurora, Colo.; and two stepsisters, Linda Venters of Virginia Beach, Va., and Caroline Hawley of Springdale. A memorial service was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at Yorktown Naval Weapons Station Chapel with Captain Edward Richardson, USN Retired, officiating. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 9, at Fort Myer Chapel in Arlington, Va., with interment and full honors to follow at Arlington National Cemetery. Turman, 83, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 1998, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith. She was a native of Bay and widow of Ollie Turman. She is survived by three grandchildren, Dan Bluff and Brenda Jeffers, both of Clarksville, and Tom Bluff of New Orleans, La.; six great- grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Paul Bluff of Clarksville. The body was cremated. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Miller Bates; three daughters and two-sons-in-law, Anita and Lawrence Mooney of Knoxville, LaJune and David Lampkin of Longview, Texas, and Betty Mize of Lamar; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Shirley Bates and Mike and Regina Bates, all of Lamar, and Roger and Jettie Bates of Dover; four sisters, Vera Beckman of North Little Rock, Jerlene Majorwitz of Lamar, and Mary Gottsponder and Billie Fern Perez, both of Dover; two brothers, Robert Bates and Dennis Bates, both of Dover; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nine nephews; and 13 nieces. Burley, 92, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Nov. 10, 1998, at Clarksville Convalescent Home. He was a Baptist, retired brick company foreman, son of the late David and Molly Burley, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Dovie Elkins Burley, and one son, Thomas Wilbern Burley. He is survived by two sons, Bill Burley of Clarksville and Jack Burley of Malvern; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one niece, Reba Laybourne of San Pablo, Calif. Pearson Davis, former resident of Olympia, Ephrata and Seattle, Wash., former insurance salesman, insurance agency owner, carpenter, and Strand Construction employee, and a member of the Church of Christ, Carpenters Local 131, and the Laryngectomy Support Group of Pasco, Wash. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Kathryn Daniel Davis; four children, Mrs. Jake (Dot) Bollinger of Wenatchee, Wash., Ronald P. Davis Jr. of Rancho Marage, Calif., Daniel N. Davis of Bellevue, Wash., and Mona Vallefuoco of Hansville, Wash.; one sister, Nerine Hodges of Kennewick, Wash.; two brothers, Ed Davis of Olympia, Wash., and Leland Davis of Kennewick, Wash.; ten grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Johnson, 80, of Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. A native of the Lone Pine Community, he was a son of the late George and Vestal Odom Johnson, member of the Lone Pine Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Navy veteran of World War II, and was a warehouse specialist for Hallmark for 31 years prior to retiring. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Willa Baskin Johnson; one son and daughter-in-law, Gary L. and Norma Johnson of Eureka Springs; one daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and John Schaffer of Lakeside, Calif.; one granddaughter and spouse, Robyn and Steve Bowman of Lakeside, Calif.; one grandson, Joshua Schaffer of Lakeside, Calif.; and three great-grandchildren, Dalton Bowman, Rachel Bowman, and Lane Schaffer, all of Lakeside, Calif. A native of Crossett, she was a daughter of the late Jess Willard Roberts, a speech and ninth grade English teacher at Dover High School and had taught in schools in Hamburg, Bauxite and the Little Rock district and at Bayshore Christian School in Tampa, Fla. She was also a former employee of the Ashley County Ledger in Hamburg and a member of the Civil Air Patrol and Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville. Survivors include her husband, Phil Lamb; two sons, Phillip and Deven Lamb, both of the home; and her mother, Louise Roberts of the home. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, at the Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville with Rev. Dick Shinkle and Rev. Ira Taylor officiating. She was a daughter of the late James and Nora Horn Hatchett, widow of Aubrey Atkinson, retired salesperson, member of the Church of Christ, Order of the Eastern Star, and Crape Myrtle Garden Club, and was preceded in death by one son, Dolan Atkinson, one brother, Pete Hatchett, and two sisters, Hazel Havener and Juanita Walker. She is survived by one sister-in-law, Sible Hatchett of Clarksville; and several nieces and nephews including Linda Garland of Clarksville and Danny Wood of Tulsa, Okla. A native of Coal Hill, she was a daughter of the late Bert and Helen Carroll Quillin, a nurse's aide for Crawford Memorial Hospital and a member of Rena Road Church of Christ in Van Buren. Survivors include her husband, Lee J. Randolph; three daughters, Linda Smith of Claremore, Okla., Jeanette Frantz of Ocala, Fla., and Carolyn Griffin of Fort Smith; two sons, Tommy Randolph of Mulberry and Del Randolph of Cedarville; one brother, Robert Quillin of Edmond, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral was at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at Rena Road Church of Christ with Wendell Needham officiating followed by graveside services and burial at 3 p.m. at Srygley Cemetery in Coal Hill.
