RUFUS MULLIKIN Rufus K. Mullikin, Jr., 78, of Star City, a retired mechanic and auto body worker, died Thursday at Jefferson Regional Medical Center. Born near Star City, he was a son of Kendrick and Ellen Anne Blasengame Mullikin. Survivors include his wife, Abbie J. Dyson Mullikin; two step-daughters, Eloise Cook of Star City and Betty Jean Newkirk of West Helena; three sisters, Grace Newman, and Gladys Hall, both of Star City, and Margaret E. Scifres of White Hall; two brothers, Buck Mullikin and Jake Mullikin, both of Star City. His funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Griffin Funeral Service of Star City. Burial will be in Drake Cemetery near Star City. Pallbearers will be Orville Cook, Gene Ray Cook, Ray Mullikin, Robert Hall, Jimmie Scifres and Stark Newman. Note: Born 4-13-1907 and died 3-13-1986 ARTHUR JACKSON MULLIKIN Funeral services for Arthur J. Mullikin, 49, a resident of Pine Bluff and Dew Drop for 32 years, who died Wednesday morning in the Army and Navy Hospital in Hot Springs, were held at 10 o’clock this morning from the chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son Mortuary. Services were conducted by Rev. Otto W. Teague, pastor of Lakeside Methodist Church. Burial was in Military Section of Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff. Note: Arthur Jackson Mullikin was born in Lincoln County, a son of the late Rufus Kendrick Mullikin, Sr. and Ellen Anne Blasengame Mullikin. FLORENCE MULLIKIN Word has been received announcing the death of Mrs. Florence Mullikin, widow of the late Ed Mullikin, former resident of Pine Bluff, who died Monday morning at her home in Washington, D.C., where she had lived for the past seven years. Survivors include one son, two daughters, and two sisters, Mrs. J. M. Cook of St. Louis, Missouri, and Mrs. Rosa Fullbright of Star City; two brothers, J. L. McEntire and J. A. McEntire of Pine Bluff and other relatives. The remains are enroute to Pine Bluff and complete funral arrangements will be announced by Ralph Robinson & Son Mortuary. Note: Born 3-23-1875, and died 3-24-1947. Marriage date: 10-9-1982 at Star City, Arkansas. MULLIKIN William Edward Mullikin, aged 60, for many years a prominent merchant of Pine Bluff, died at the Davis Hospital yesterday afternoon after having been ill about two years. Although he had been in ill health for a long time, Mr. Mullikin's condition did not become critical until three years (? days?) when he was removed to the hospital. Mr. Mullikin came to Pine Bluff about 25 years ago from Lincoln County and engaged in the mercantile business at Fourth and Main, on the corner now occupied by Kress and company. Later he retired from business and moved to Helena where he engaged in business for a number of years. From Helena he removed to Grady where he was in business until about two months ago when he removed to Watson Chapel and opened a drug store. Surviving him are his widow, three children; Mrs. F. D. Willingham of Pine Bluff, Mrs. J. W. Hellums of Sherrill; and W. E. Mullikin, Jr., McGehee. His body has been removed to the H. A. McEntire home, 1203 Main Street where it will lie in state this morning. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at 4 o'clock from the First Christian Church, conducted by Rev. H. A. Blake, pastor, who will be assisted by Rev. Frank Thompson of North Little Rock. Honarary pall bearers will be as follows: Ed Russell, E. W. Freeman, Dr. B. D. Luck, Dr. O. G. Blackwell, W.M. Toney, Hinton Ferguson, C. E. Wood, Grady, and Joe Gray. Active pallbearers will be A. E. Pledger, Wiley Roundtree, R. M. Vance, Walter Little, J. H. Evans, Watson Chapel; D. A. Bittnger and D. H. HARVEY A. MULLIKIN Word was received yesterday that Harvey A. Mullikin, aged 30, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Mullikin Sr. of Grady, died in Indianapolis, Ind., yesterday, about noon. The report stated that heart failure was evidently the cause of his sudden death. Harvey Mullikin attended the public schools of Pine Bluff, later attending the Columbia Military School, Columbia, Tennessee. During World War I, he served as a lieutenant in the medical corps. He is survived by his wife and daughter, Betty Lou, aged five, mother and father; two sisters, Mrs. F. D. Willingham of Pine Bluff, and Mrs. J. W. Hellums of Grady; one brother, W. E. Mullikin, Jr. of McGehee. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Pine Bluff, the Blue Lodge in Masonry at New York City, the Scottish Rite of Topeka, Kan., and also a member of Abdajiah Shrine Temple, Leavenworth, Kansas. His funeral will be held at the home of his parents in Grady, Sunday afternoon, April 5, at 3:30 o'clock. Note: Burial was in Graceland Cemetery, Pine Bluff. Born 7-31-1896, and died 4-2-1925. ------- W. E. MULLIKIN, Jr. William Edward Mullikin, Jr., of Wenatchee, Washington, former resident of Pine Bluff, died Wednesday in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Mullikin, son of the late Ed and Florence McEntire Mullikin, was a member of pioneer Lincoln county families. “Mack” as he was known to local friends had been making his home in Washington for a number of years. He leaves in addition to his wife; two sons, Harry Mullikin of Wenatchee and Walter Mullikin of New York City; two sisters, Mrs. Sam Jared, Jr. of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and Mrs. Edna Mae Hellums of Washington, D. C.; and other relatives. The cremated remains of Mr. Mullikin are being returned to Pine Bluff and funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 4 o’clock in the chapel of Ralph Robinson Mortuary. Services will be conducted by Rev. W. E. Brown, pastor of First Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bellwood Cemetery, Pine Bluff. Note: Born 6-28-1900, and died 7-28-1948. JESSIE G. BATES Jessie Gerome Bates, 83, of Star City, died Saturday at Jefferson Hospital. He was a retired farmer. He was a member of the Calvary Assembly of God Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mittie Mae Mullikin Bates; five sons, George Bates, Robert Bates, Herman Bates, all of Star City; Raymond Bates of Norwich, Connecticut; one daughter, Mrs. Mae Bell Kimbrell of Malvern; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Burial will be in Heflin Cemetery here by Dyer Funeral Home of McGehee. He was a retired dockman for Texas Eastern Inc. He was a veteran of World War II, and the Korean War. Born in Star City, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Kendrick and Ellen Ann Blasengame Mullikin. She was a former employee of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company here, and of Dr. Howard L. Hall. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and the Phebean Bible Class. Survivors include a son, Charles Riley, Jr. of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Mildred) Welch of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Edgar T. (Mary Lou) Smith of Springfield, Missouri and Mrs. Robert C. He was a retired automobile mechanic. A native of Hot Springs, he was a son of the late Edgar Mitchem and Fannie Wadley Riley. He moved to Pine Bluff as a child, and attended school here. He was employed for many years at Pines Motor Company and later Brown Motor Company prior to his retirement in 1961. Survivors include his wife, Esther O. Mullikin Riley, whom he married in 1925, here; a son, Charles Riley, Jr. of Pine Bluff; three daughters, Mrs. Cecil Welch of Pine Bluff, Mrs. Edgar Smith of Springfield, Missouri, and Mrs. Robert Reichard of Mount Joy, Pennsylvania; a brother, Harry R. She was a retired employee of the Pine Bluff Arsenal. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband, Cecil L. He was the son of the late Rufus Kendrick Mullikin, Sr. and Ellen Anne Blasengame Mullikin. ------------------------- Published in the Pine Bluff Commercial, in 1948 AMANDA MULLIKIN Burns she received at her home, 2108 East Barraque, on January 14, today proved fatal to Mrs. Amand Mullikin, 48, widow of the late Lewis Dee Mullikin. Mrs. Mullikin was burned when her clothing caught fire from an open heater. Taken to Davis Hospital she appeared to be improving until Thursday evening, when her condition took a sudden turn for the worse and she continued to sink until her death at 3:37 a.m. today. Born in DeWitt, October 17, 1899, Mrs. Mullikin was a daughter of the late William and Mary Etta Hammett Whatley. She was educated in DeWitt and Stuttgart, and on December 22, 1919, was married to the late Mr. Mullikin in DeWitt, where the couple made their home for several years. Later they moved to Star City and then to Tarry, coming to Pine Bluff in 1936. She leaves three daughters, Mrs. Elbert Branch of Pine Bluff, Miss Mildred Mullikin of the staff of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, and Mrs. H. C. McKinney, of Springfield, Missouri; three sons, Caroll Dee Mullikin of Columbia, South Carolina, Pfc. William F. Mullikin of the U. S. Airforce, stationed at Barksdale Field, La., Tom Arthur Mullikin of Pine Bluff; her mother, Mrs. W. M. Whatley of Humphrey; three brothers, J. D. Whatley of Humphrey, Roy Whatley of Hot Springs and Willie Myatt of Little Rock, and two sisters, Mrs. W. H. Duncan of Hot Springs, and Mrs. Floyd Ward Bell of Reydell. Also surviving are three grandsons, James E. Branch and Bobby Ray Branch of Pine Bluff, and Billy Howard McKinney of Springfield, Missouri, and a granddaughter, Patricia Ann Mullikin of Columbia, South Carolina. BRANCH Winnie Branch, a former Pleasanton resident, died Saturday at her granddaughter's home in Winchester, Virginia. She was 78. A native of Reydell, Arkansas., she worked as a retail clerk for Sprouse Reitz in Pleasanton, and as a cashier for McDonald's and Burger King in Livermore. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Pleasanton and the Eastern Star of Pleasanton. She is survived by her sons, James Branch of Winchester, Virginia, and Bob Branch of Bakersfield, California; sister, Mildred Turner, and brothers, Carroll, Tom, and Floyd Mullikin, all of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her husband of 55 years, Elbert, died in 1994. Services: 10 a.m. Wednesday at Callaghan Mortuary, Livermore. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the service. He was a molder for Standard Brake Shoe Foundry at Pine Bluff. He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence Mullikin, who died on February 15, 1995; five brothers, R. K. Mullikin, Frank Mullikin, Arthur Mullikin, Arthur Mullikin, Dee Mullikin and Gus Mullikin; and three sisters, Chester Wynn, Esther Riley and Grace Newman. Survivors include a son, John Mullikin of Star City; a daughter, Mary Lou Latourette of Houston; a brother, Jake Mullikin of Star City; two sisters, Margaret Scifres of White Hall and Gladys Hall of Star City; and four grandchildren. ABBIE JOSEPHINE BUTLER MULLIKIN CLINE Abbie Josephine Dyson Butler Mullikin Cline, 86, of Pine Bluff, died March 1, 1999 at Arkansas Convalescent Center. She was born on June 4, 1912, at Redfield, a daughter of the late Mark L. Dyson and Celie Heird Dyson. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Assembly of God in Pine Bluff. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl Butler; her second husband, R. K. Mullikin, Jr.; her third husband, Floyd Cline; two sons, Mack Lewis Butler and Edgar H. Butler; and a daughter, Elouise Cook. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Allen of West Helena; 27 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-great grandchild. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Griffin Funeral Service at Star City with Ron Woods officiating. Burial will be in Drake Cemetery at Star City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
