He was born June 16, 1925, at Tarry, a son of the late Erwin Polk and Eliza Russell Polk. He received his education in public schools at Lincoln County. He was a farmer for many years. He worked at the Pine Bluff Arsenal until he retired. He was a member of Old Macedonia Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, choir director and song leader. He worked with the Big Creek & Reedville Association and was a member of the Layman Association. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Christine Polk; five sons, Rufus Polk of Flint, Mich., the Rev. Jimmy Polk, Lawrence Polk and Clarence Polk, all of Pine Bluff, and Arthur Polk of Vacaville, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Old Macedonia Baptist Church, southwest of Tarry, with the Rev. G.L. Ford officiating. Burial will be in Old Macedonia Cemetery at Tarry by Perry Funeral Home of Pine Bluff. Visitations will be from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family hour will be from 6 to 7 p.m.
