Mary Lee was born in Star City on Oct. 24, 1940 to Murphy Brockman and the late Willite Fount Vick Brockman. She was an active member of Almyra Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Star City High School in 1968, and then attended Pine Bluff Vocational School in 1969. Mrs. Smith worked at Burlington Area Rugs in Monticello from 1979 to 1985. She is survived by her husband, Doug Smith of Almyra; her father, Murphy Brockman of Star City; two daughters, Rachel Joslin and Husband Darrell of Stuttgart and Amanda Bronson and Husband Jason of DeWitt; four grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole and Samantha Dawn Joslin of Stuttgart, William Zacharie and Elizabeth Lee Ann Bronson of DeWitt; a brother, Kenneth Brockman of Star City; and a sister, Linda Floyd of Star City. Mary Lee was always full of life, always had patience, and caring for people who came to her door. She was quick to want to play a card game of spades, and beat you at it. Different times she moved in her life, the Lord would always bring her someone she could help. Mary Lee would always help out the neighborhood kids. When Amanda was young, she would ask her mother,"Why did you give those kids my last peanut butter sandwich?" Mary Lee would reply, "Well, they dont even have peanut butter." In her ways, she taught that you can bless someone else even if it is just a peanut butter sandwich. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Almyra Baptist Church by Rev. Gerald Jackson with burial in O'Neil Cemetery in Star City, by Turpin Funeral Home of Stuttgart. The family was at the funeral home for visitation for 6 to 8 p.m Tuesday evening. The family suggests that memorials be made to Pine Bluff Hospice.
